Don't know what your talking about but I have the entire series in one book and intend to read the whole thing.
Mostly Harmless is the title of the 5th book (last one by Adams, there´s a sequel by another author). Without going into spoilers, the tone and plot are so different from the others I think Adams must have been through something really bad. I think he was planning to write a 6th book and kind of fix it when he died.
