I enjoyed the hyperion series but could not get into Ilium.
I've just started Ubik by Philip K. Dick. I am enjoying it so far.

Philip K. Dick is a little further down my "to read" list. I really want to know more of his work, I only read some of his books years ago. 'The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch' was... interesting, and 'Ubik' as well as 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?' I remember to like a lot.

The Forever War - Joe Haldemann

Reading now:

Starship Troopers - Robert A. Heinlein

Up next:

The Fall of Hyperion - Dan Simmons
The Stars My Destination - Alfred Bester
Childhood's End - Arthur C. Clarke

This one usually hits very hard, so don´t read it a day you want to feel good.

Hm, okay, that does sound like I should probably not read it anytime soon - my mood isn't the best these days. Image IPB

So thanks for the warning, I appreciate it! Image IPB

Have either of you heard of the Lovecraft themed Christmas Carols put out by the H. P. Lovecraft historical society?  They're hilarious and well written/sung:

There's two whole holiday albums and an album that's a parody of "A Fiddler on the Roof"  (called "A Shoggoth on the Roof")

No problem.  I'm glad you like them!  If you want to find the rest, just look at the wiki pages for the albums and search in YouTube.  Well over half are posted there.

So, I just finished "Count to a Trillion" by John C. Wright.  Don't read it.  It was bad.  I've never experienced a future setting that was more yawn inducing, and I've never seen such a Mary Sue main character as Menelaus Montrose outside of fanfic.  (and I hate how often the term Mary Sue gets used, so the fact I'm using it at all shows how bad it was.)

Next I will be reading "War Maid's Choice", the fourth book in the series "The War God's Own" by David Weber.  It's a (finally) released sequel to the earlier three books, which were decent if a little generic fantasy.  Hopefully it will be better than "Count to a Trillion".

Actually, now that I think of it that book was aptly named.  It properly conveys the boredom and pointlessness contained therein.

Just finished reading Wolf of the Plains - Conn Iggulden and it's not often that a book that deal with a historic character capture my interest like this book did. The book deal with Genghis Khan and his rise to fame and glory. Not really cared about Genghis before but now he's absolutely interesting
