Road of Skulls

It's enjoyable, but I would only recommended to fans of the series.

Fatale Volume 2. Lovecraftian horror meets hardboiled crime. Awesome.

Sandra McDonald - The Outback Stars

I'm about 2/3's of the way through it. At the half way mark it became a wallbanger when some mystical/spiritual elements reared their misty little heads. I like fantasy and I will read science fiction, but I like to keep them separate. I even like magical realism. I quite enjoyed the story and was looking forward to seeing how the romance developed until there started to be too many shaman.

Now it's turned into a bit of a slog. Which is a shame.

Just finished reading A Memory of Light. All the feels...

I have no idea what to start reading now. I've got a huge pile of books to start on, but it never really feels right trying to start a new book when I'm still attached to the previous one I was reading.

I often have this issue as well. What I tend to do is shift genres, so if I just finished a sci-fi or fantasty novel/series, I'll switch to non-fiction or something completely different. Usually works well for me.

More on topic: I'm currently reading an anthology of sci-fi from 2004. Some really good stuff.

I just finished the Hunger Games trilogy. The third in series was a disappointment.

That's a good idea. Think I might pick up one of the non-fantasy books and try and get into that. Makes more sense than waiting forever until my fervour for the previous book dies down.

I quite liked Dune the first time I read it. Not so much the sequels. Why?

I love that series, but I haven't gotten to Jack Cloudie yet.  Secrets of the Fire Sea is high on my reading list at the moment.

Mystic elements. Paul´s visions and the reason he exists aren´t exactly SF, at least with the understanding of science we have now.

Completely agree about the sequels.

It's for work.

For fun I'm reading Kenzaburo Oe's Atarashii hito yo mezame yo and the English translation: Rouse Up O Young Men of the New Age.

K J Parker - Colours In The Steel

Already more than a third of the way through and bracing myself for 'beloved character death'. It just feels like the kind of book where everyone you like, dies.

I've just started 'The Pastures of Heaven' by John Steinbeck. Previously I was reading 'Comprehending Columbine' by Ralph W. Larkin.

Neither are joyous reads but I enjoy the morbid at times. It keeps me feeling alive.
