Just After Sunset by Stephen King - a collection of short stories.
Have you ever read the short story collection called Everthing's Eventual by King? I think I prefer his short stories or at least shorter novels. Most of the long works of his that I've read like The Stand & It are very good but but falter towards the last 3rd or so.
Nope, I haven't but it's on my list! Since I'm a Stephen King fan, I've read most of his work but there are a few things I've missed (for a while, I was completely burned out on reading anything at all thanks to my job - heh). I would recommend Full Dark, No Stars if you like his shorter stories (novellas in this case).

Isaac Asimov's Foundation trilogy. Never got around to read it before but I can definitely see why he is considered to be the father of modern science fiction. It's brilliant.

I just finished Kindl's Keeping the Castle. Meh. A promising first half followed by an uninvolving second half.
I would highly recommend Girt. It's genuinely funny and doesn't conflate history for the sake of political gain, it does miss some elements as I'd have liked a little more Aboriginal history woven in but in general a very well written piece.
Currently I'm slogging through a changed syllabus but I am enjoying reading:

Pretty fitting book for a man of my age. ( 20 yrs old ) The book basically explores common things 20 yr olds go through, along with common mistakes and tips for how to react accordingly.

Some more fanfiction:

*Image by a fellow friend of the CnC community back when I was active in it*
- And -

Click the images to get linked to the respective fanfictions.
First one, "Tiberium Wars" is a fan novelization of the videogame Command and Conquer 3 - Tiberium Wars and an astoundingly good piece of work. Vividly invocative writing, great detail and accurate in tone and atmosphere of the game to the point you get the chills when you read it. If you don't know the game, it's no big loss as apart from a couple inside jokes, it still makes for a great science-fiction/alternative universe war story. And it will make you want to play the game (which is pretty darn good too and right now dirt cheap!). If you DO know the game, the fanfiction alternates the timeline of the campaign bit (negligibly though) and goes into great detail.
Second one, "Renegade" is a cross-fanfiction between the aforementioned Command and Conquer Tiberium universe and the Mass Effect universe. In short, the GDI replaces the Systems Alliance as political representation of Earth and First Contact went a bit different between the GDI and the Turians so that GDI forms a politically independent entity besides the Citadel Council. This however is were significant changes end as so far the story keeps as close to the original redline of the game as it can get with the CnC influence. Incorporates major Garrus awesomesauce too!
Great reads those two and easily the best fanfiction I've read up to now. And I don't really recommend fanfiction lightly offhand, so if CnC and/or alternative ME fiction is something have even only remote interest in: READ IT!
