I am reading Mark Twain's review of James Fenimore Cooper's Leatherstocking Tales books.
It has a well-deserved reputation as being one of the funniest put-downs in the English language. I have never read anything by Cooper, but I hope for the sake of the Americans on this board that they did not have to read anything by him, either.
I did! But, to my great misfortune, I've also had to read anything by Mark Twain other than Huckleberry Finn. He's a seriously overrated author, and we've produced much better. But, seriously, JFC is awful.

I've been on a big Tolkien kick. I finished Fellowship of the Ring and started The Two Towers. I got The Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales for my birthday a while ago so I have to work my way to those.
