It's a reread for me. But I haven't read it in nearly 10 or so years, I was 14 or 15 when I did first, so I have forgotten lots of it. Awesome book BTW. Kinda burly tho.

A buddy gave me about 6 books from a series i know nothing about, the 1st one is called Furies of Calderon or something like that, the authors name is Butcher I think? First book is pretty good so far, about 1/4 way though.

The World Until Yesterday by Jared Diamond
It looks like the Krogan society in Mass Effect of small tribes existing in a state of constant violence and recurring warfare with each other (over revenge, food, territory, women) very much resembles older and more traditional human societies. The striking part is just how comfortable people can be with violence in these societies, since they grow up with it their entire lives.
Larger modern societies where the state holds a monopoly on violence was not the norm until (relatively) very recently.
Strange place to find insight into Mass Effect.

Well, it *was* The Night Eternal by Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan. But then Dragon Age: Last Flight came out, so jumped on that before the BSN can spoil the hell out of it for me.
