Yes, I remember it being good. I'm re-reading it. I have all the available Witcher books but I've only read this one a long time ago. I was trying to read them all before the game comes out. But I don't think that's going to happen lol. I started too late.

Eeeep! Don't remind me, I still need to finish my 2nd playthrough of TW2! I picked Roche's path this time. I like Iorveths better though.

I guess I should contribute too.

Playing through WC3 made me want to re-read this book again. Soo good!

I'm also gonna probably re-read the War of The Ancients trilogy as well.

it's not interesting, it's boring. everything i do belongs to corp, so no samples. i never wanted to learn BI but someone has to if we want to finish the project

Did you sign an NDA? What type of project? What is your responsibility in the project? Sorry for the question. I am just generally interested

1. NDA is included in my work contract

2. server-client + datacentre (fortunately datacentre client is not in the scope)

3. architect (because they don't care and we want to have scalable code), analyst (because someone has to speak to PM and translate business-babble to normal people and logical techno-speach to aliens) and drone (programmer cuz... i like this part)

/rant

i seriosuly f...n hate business. they don't give a crap about long term profits. i said once on a meeting we should put resources into developing our own expert system and basic AI to manage few tedious company-related tasks. at first it may be cluncky, but man, it'd fix so many problems. no, they said, cuz reasons. right, let's stick to putting that old band aid on a cancer. old fat fags

/rant over

What can I say about Burke that hasn't already been said. He's a masterclass. One of the best fiction writers in America. This latest adventure of Dave and pals is so good.... And for a 20th installment of a series to be so fresh, vivid and well written and paced so well is just.... Well, it's just unheard of really.

Tom did a good job in the movie but, looking back, I wish they had cast a lesser known actor and had been more faithful to the source material. Emily Blunt as Rita was badass.

In the Garden of Beasts

InTheGardenOfBeasts_magnum.jpg

It's about the American Ambassador to Germany, William Dodd, in the years 1933 and 1934 during Nazi's initial takeover. Creepy. He stood by pretty powerlessly as Germany institutionalized nationalism and Hitler worship (one could get beaten up for not saluting Hitler enough), while disenfranchising all non-Aryans, and then non-Hitler supporters with laws and violent purges. Meanwhile, the US State Department, ignoring his warnings about the deteriorating situation, was more concerned with Germany paying back its WWI debt, and so didn't want to disrupt the international relationship with condemnation for their internal actions.

Unexpected revelations: the head of the Gestapo, Diels, who dated the Ambassador's daughter Martha (who apparently dated everyone while herself going through a divorce) comes across as the most "moderate".

While it's printed in America, it's made for a British publisher so the type is tiny and the paper is a little rough. It is a most excellent history however.

With the expected greek myth allegory.  It's long but a good read so far.

There are some great recommendations on this page alone.  I've got stuff to keep me busy through the summer now.

Keep up the good work.  We should start a book club or something.

I'm reading The Martian by Andy Weir.

18007564.jpg

I just finished this and I highly recommend it, not just because it's really good, but because they're making a movie out of it and the cover will change soon. So, boo on that, but yay on the movie!

If you don't the story behind this book, you will soon. Andy Weir wrote it and put it on his website for free. People started asking him for Kindle versions because it made it easier to read, so he did and asked the lowest price possible for it - .99 cents. Then Random House picked it up for a print deal and that same week Weir got the movie deal. He said it all happened so fast that he thought it was an elaborate scam.

So yeah, read this one. It's super good.
