I finished reading this today.
I highly recommend picking it up, or getting the audiobook read by the books author if you have seen The Room.

The first and only SF novel to sweep all the awards, Hugo, Nebula and Arthur C. Clarke.
I've just finished reading it and know why. A pretty good read. Really.

Oooh, how is it? I've heard good things. Should I put in an Amazon order or hold out and borrow it from someone in a while?

I was enjoying it right up until Life intervened. As soon as I get two or more hours free, I'm planning on resuming reading it.

Just finished The Darkling Child, by Terry Brooks. NOT one of his best books.
Now I am reading The Daylight War, by Peter V. Brett. Great so far. Its the third book in a series of 5. 4 have been published so far.

The Liar's key
(spoiler for size)
At present I'm still finding Jal a less compelling character than Jorg but the characters are still enjoable and the setting continues to be intriguing and interesting.

TBH, I started reading it, but I got caught up with some RL stuff, so I'm gonna restart.
PS: I really need to read it, since a friend gave me as a birthday present, so...

I just discovered Banks recently and am so crushed there won't be more novels
I will just have to read them all again.

You've already read them all? I still have 'The Hydrogen Sonata' left.
I think I liked 'Inversions' best.
But yeah, it's horribly sad. Can't see anyone really taking up his mantle either. You should probably check out 'Ancillary Justice' by Ann Leckie though.
And I'm starting on this now:

Thanks for the rec! I need a new novel. The Hydrogen Sonata was wonderful. I tried to read slowly so it wouldn't be over so soon.
