I'm working on a short story featuring an original character, set in Nos Astra. I want it to be consistent with any number of possible play experiences that people may have had during Mass Effect 2. The story skirts around the events of Shepard's visit, with specific reference to the siege on the Eclipse base (where Shepard goes to obtain the name of the ship that Morinth left on, as part of recruiting Samara).
Trouble is, I've since realised that it is entirely possible for people to play Mass Effect 2 without recruiting Samara, and thus never storming the Eclipse base. See here social.bioware.com/forum/Mass-Effect/Mass-Effect-2-Official-Campaign-Quests-and-Storylines-Spoilers-Warning/Do-I-have-to-recruit-everyone-916716-1.html
The story could be changed to accommodate players who never recruited Samara, but then another thought dawned on me, which has greater repercussions for my story: does Shepard have to visit Illium at all? In other words, can the game be completed without recruiting Samara and Thane, without doing Miranda's loyalty mission, and without doing any of the other subquests, e.g. Liara's hacking missions etc? I don't have the free time to try all possible permutations (much as I’d like to), so I'm hoping the community can shed some light on this.
Thanks for any help.
