I have a weird problem:I just re-installed ME1 on a new system (Win7 64) and found out I forgot to switch languages in the setup menu to english and so was stuck with german. Since I prefer the "original" language I uninstalled ME1 and wanted to re-install it. But suddenly the installation process cancels right after I enter the CD key. I have searched the registry and made sure every entry related to ME1 was gone, but I still can't get the game installed.

Any ideas? After two hours of trying to get ME1 reinstalled I'm a bit frustrated now...

Are you running the installer in Windows XP compatible mode?

1st time I successfully installed ME1 I didn't run it in compatibility mode and it worked nevertheless. Just tried it again, this time in compatibility mode, didn't work.

have you patched the game? If I recall right, ME on PC had a DRM, you could only install 3? (5 with patch?) times before you need a new activation code. I'm everything but sure, since I never hit this artifial limit, but there was one.

When I (succesfully) reinstalled the game I hadn't patched it yet. I installed the game and wanted to install the Bring Down The Sky DLC again when I got the message that this addon only worked with the english version of ME. That's when I found out I had forgot to set language to english when installing ME, so I uninstalled it and tried to reinstall it in english,  and that's where the problems started...

If I need a new activation code, how would I get one? The EA support is somewhat...lacking.

You shouldn't need a new activation code. Even if running out of activations is the problem (and I'm pretty sure it would be cropping up on first launch, not on installation) EA support should be able to simply give you more on the same key.
