Wow. So the Dragon Age movie everybody's been speculating about IS being made ... and it is indeed animation rather than live actors ... but it's Japanese anime.

Despite Bioware publically ragging on Japanese RPGs.

That blows my mind on multiple levels.

............ I DESPISE Anime! ARgh, they CANNOT do this! :pinched:

Saying you despise anime is like saying you despise all movies or books, lump judgments are naive. It will probably be good if what was done with halo and batman are any indication.  I was actually hopeing (is that a word?) Dragon Age Would get the halo legends treatment. So not only can they do it they should.

All Anime I've seen, and I may be wrong, contains horrid, childlike characters, with huge eyes, and teenage bodies. Excaggarated emotional displays, very much like Japanese theater, and toe-cringing childlike behaviour, especially from the females. I'd HATE to see what anime will turn a character like Leliana into!:pinched:

I Dragon Age 2 become ME2 I wont buy it. I lost interest In ME2 way to fast, because of the way to simple gameplay.

Are all video games like Mario?  Do all American cartoons have Big footed mice?  What you are saying you hate is one type of show that is commonly brought to America to be marketed to children.
Look up Monster, Sword of The Stranger, Samurai X trust and betrayal (make sure its trust and betrayal), Moribito, Jin  Roh, Black Lagoon, Grave of the fireflies, and if your OK with somewhat more stylized Death note (especially the first episode) and cowboy bebop.  Worried about female characters look at Ergo Proxy, Moribito guardian of the spirit or Witch Hunter Robin

Those are just off the top of my head
Actually look a few up.

For one, it does make a difference, not only that, but if you're going to make a point to support the "expansion" pack, without even playing it, your opinion becomes invalid in the first place. At least, in your original post, you could have said you didn't actually play it, rather than putting me under the impression that you did. Furthermore, we're talking about conversations? What conversations in Awakening? What were you watching? There was little to no interactions amongst compansions, NPCs, anyone. The only ones that I can remember, and I just finished the game for the second time a couple days ago, is the court, the one time you get to actually have a conversation with a few of your party members, and the lady who takes you down into the Deep Roads. Oh, wait, and the whole thing to get Justice. Who can forget Justice!? Most of the cut-scenes were pre-battle ones and they weren't long, at all. In DAO, even now, skipping through some crucial things, you will be completely confused on what to do. On Awakening, I did just that during my first play-through, on Nightmare, and it was a walk in the park. I'm interested in knowing what 'conversations' you're refering to, as well. However, continuing this 'debate' between us is becoming a bit pointless, is it not?

Its always pointless to listen to someone who wont listen to you in a debate.

that said i agree without having actually played the game he does not really have the ability to give more that his passing thoughts on the matter.

little to no is an understatement compared to many games ive played.

Compare it to DAO? why yes it was very little compared to that but guess what.

DAO you spend 30 hours chatting and very little fighting.

ive beaten DAO in 12 hours skipping the talking and while doing side quests.

After one playthrough you know the story.

I prefer awakenings over DAO for its convo.

Story is good once but many times its not that great.

I like games i can play a ton of times and still have fun.

Thats why i liked oblivion.

not much on tlak but you understood whats happenings and lots of fighting and combos you can make.

Sure i can play the game but you have failed to explain why it makes a difference.

You want instant gratification. You don't like depth.  Its that simple.

What does "casualized" even mean? I was hear that argument thrown around and I have no idea what context you're using the term.

My impression of the term and others like it is that they refer to any attempt to get away from the more traditional/hardcore aspects of a genre to gain the interest of a broader audience-- and often carry with them an implication that said audience is less discerning and less worthy of attention.

So, "casualized" is to gaming, what Pop is to music? Broader audience, but looked down upon as a lower quality product that is considered to be a sell out and lacking any heart or purpose.

That’s not a bad analogy of it actually.

You may like a certain casual game but it’s a short thrill since 3 other companies will release the same type of game with the same generic story and game play while adding nothing new that you haven’t seen before.

Casual games are something you can play when you have short amounts of time to devote to a game but are also easy to pick up and learn to play. They are typically short games as well.

I would consider Mass Effect 2 a casual game. The game is broken down into missions and you can play any mission in about an hour. Its rather an easy game to get into and learn to play but other than the story itself other games do the third person shooter aspect a hell of a lot better. You can beat this one in about 45 hours. Halo 3: ODST and any fighting game are perfect examples.

Dragon Age: Origins I don’t consider a casual game. Even though its fairly easy to learn most quests take well over an hour or more to do and will likely take you a good 80+ hours to play it completely. The Elder Scrolls 4: Ovlivion is another good example and I would consider a lot of RPG's as well.

A better way to look at it is casual games are like checkers, hardcore games are like chess.

Casualized means the business model EA historically favors: MADDEN.

Take a successful IP then give it a face lift every year. Dragon Age 2009, 2010, 2011, ect. This is a lazy uninnovative business model but it works quite profitably for specific niche markets.

I imagine EA is planning to use the Madden strategy for the SW mmo, keep dumping resources into the brand until the competition is vaporized.

This is my greatest fear in regard to Dragon Age 2. I'm afraid they'll go the Mass Effect 2 route and just dumb down the RPG aspects. If DA2 ends up being a hack 'n' slash action game with a dialogue system tacked on to it, I'm not buying it.

Yup, EA already ruined ME2 making it to much combat, I refuse to pay for DA if they go that route here as well.

Dragon Age: Origins already had way too much combat for me. The pacing in this game was horrible so if that's your meter for a ruined game, than DA:O is pretty bad. Really the only good thing about DA:O is the characters, and even the antagonists, the Darkspawn, are bland and unoriginal. I did like how they were expanded on in the Awakening expansion.

Just to drop in my 2 cents...

Its very very very hard for them to make Dragon Age more casual.

There is hardly any kind of game play mechanics at this moment. And yes the game is all about swimming around in blood so much to a level where it look completly dumb. But anyway!

When it come to gameplay itself there is alot of problems first of all:

1) There is no choice. By this i mean that there are hardly any spells / special abilities / special points or anything that you can use to make yourself better. Instead the game hold your hand and pat you on the head incase you do something wrong... Wait you cant... There are no choices there for nothing can go wrong :)...

2) Its mindless combat. There is no "Hmmm maybe i should try to flank these bandits before i go and talk to them... Ok my companions are now hiding behind that hill side... *talks* *All companions are teleported to you* In other words who need stratedgy when you can just bash head on keyboard and still win?

3)Balance... the balance in this game is right now like this... Mage >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Everything

Why is it like this? Most likely because of the lack of choices we have. The mage have to be the CC... Mass Damage dealer... Healer... And well you get the point the mage will in other words be a god running around.

4)Is the game "hard"? No... Some might say "omg its so hard if you play on the hardest". But its not true. Its the dumb AI nothing more. So aoe spells hurt your companions if you throw the spells. But because the AI dont care about its friends it will just rain the overpowered AOE spells on you while you have 10 melee units mashing on you. Hard? No Annoying? yes

For them to make this more casual they would basicly have to make it like this:

*Press 1 to instantly kill all enemies on the screen*

*Press 2 to win the game*

And no they cant make the game more casual... Honestly if they make a dragon age 2. They better add a real skill / stat / special talents / feat system and about 5 more classes...

Oh and multiplayer support. :D

I don't agree with the majority of the things you said, but I especially disagree, which stood out from all of the rest, with you saying they should add multiplayer in the game. First, unless I'm mistaken, I believe they've already stated they are not incorporating multiplayer into the game. Secondly, they didn't add that into the game in the first place for a reason. It's supposed to be a single player game. Do you want it to be another WoW?

Disagree with it all you want. But DA:O is casual right now. For them to even go more casual then this... Well my brain cant comprehend how they would do that.

Also i dont want wow... I want a NWN community. A toolset that make sense and where it dont take 20 hours to compile a map.

The only thing that makes the BG series harder than Dragon Age is the fact that there are a ton of ****ing spells that you have to know. Once you actually do that the games are just as easy as DA.

And that's basically the difference between hardcore and casual. Now personally I prefer casual because hardcore is just a self righteous word for bad game design.

It sounds like this just isn't the game for you, then. If you like to skip dialogue and everything, why play a game that's main focus is the dialogue? It sounds to me like you're not really the RPG type. Maybe Diablo, or Warcraft would suit you better.
