Let's hope Dragon Age 2 doesn't get casualized.

I think DA is right on the mark for the amount of spells and talents.
Its quite straight forward as it is now.The only thing people really debate is stat distribution otherwise people go for the same spells most of the time for certain types of characters.

I like how you throw in ''remove most of the voice acting in there'' Broken, cause casuals who want action games just love text!
Furthermore the critique against ME2 on theese boards is ridiculous and originates from narrowminded value dogmatism as regards to the rpg genre. All you do is bash ME2 for it's lack of some of the classic elements that make up a typical rpg without taking into consideration that is in fact a game that deviates from this typical rpg formula and which is more of an action/rpg hybrid. Alternatively people actually do understand that it is a hybrid but see anything that deviates from the classic RPG as automatically inferior, which the expression ''casualized'' is a good example of.
Because when you look at the actual combat in Mass Effect 2 and compare it to Mass Effect 1 you will see that it is (despite the slimmed down skill tree) much more varied. In ME1 pistols were imba and different weapons all felt very much alike and combat was very basic. In ME2 different weapons are good at different things and theres a great variety in regards to the arsenal of weapons, combat is also more tactical and controlled thanks to the cover system. Also let's not forget that the sidequests of ME2 own those of ME1 hard.
In short you bash the relative lack of certain classical RPG elements while completely ignoring the fact that they were more than made up for by improving other things.
As far as the voice acting, it was half-sarcasm...if you're playing a casual hack-n-slash or shooter dressed up as an RPG, the most you typically want to hear from anything is a death rattle, unless you can recruit it, then they can just keep their mouth shut and their weapon busy.
Seriously, though, I liked both ME and ME2 for what they were. I didn't bash ME. I own and play them both! I simply appreciate them for what they are. I will say that I like the classic RPG elements that DA: O have, and, will pick a game with its level of character and inventory complexity 10 out of 10 times. I can enjoy a game for what it is, I feel that DA: O is great as it is, and will simply be dissapointed if they decide to dumb it down. I enjoy them both in totally different ways. I also like Fallout 3 for all the bashing it's received, and Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. I don't feel that a character in Fallout plays that much differenty regardless of how you develop them. Elder Scrolls entails an almost cumbersome amount of inventory management, but I enjoy both for what they are. In my opinion, Bioware did good with Dragon Age: Origins. I would hate to see them f*ck up a good thing. Papa always said: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

I'm the casual mainsteam element that I think EA is going for.....well okay, not totally mainstream since I'm older and was into tabletop RPGing, but we got DA:O for the PS3, I stayed up all friggin' weekend my first playthrough to complete the game before I had to go out of town for two weeks for work (3 hours of sleep), THEN while out of town I purchased the game for my PC.....and I had NEVER played a PC game before......heck, had never played a RPG game like this before either.....heck, had never really played video games before.
Typical hack and slash shooter games, of no interest to me....but this game, with character development, approval loss/gains, romance? Whoa! What fun! Now if your level of jerkiness really had an effect on how the world around you treated you and not just how your companions treated you.....
If they dumb DA:O down further for any sequels, and make it more like.....um, can't think of any good examples of first person shooter hack slash games with a storyline tacked on since I don't play them....I'll never purchase anything DA:O related again....(still haven't purchased DA:A......didn't like what I was hearing what they did to the gameplay and the bugs....so I'll wait to see if it's necessary for any sequel b4 buying, or not)
But come on EA/Bioware! I've got money to drop on games.....and if you suck me in (I have an addictive streak for these things), I'll buy it and all the DLC, and all the sequels.....just keep the quality, RPG portion/interactions, and the gameplay up and you've got my $$$.....otherwise, go suck an egg, I won't give you any $$.

It would be a crying shame to see it reduced to a copy of something else.
I like hack and slash but if it was a matter of just that DA wouldn't be my first choice anymore.
I like DA because is so much more than just that, so very much more.
I see from many posts that is something we pretty much all agree on and I hope that the bioware team sees my post as the thousand confirmation.

Based on what is said here by Ray Muzyka, we will be playing a set character, a human, with a goal to rise in power, implying either as a champion of Fereldan or perhaps ruler, and the run of the game will cover the span of a decade...
Sounds familiar anyone?? This type of plot is too reminiscent of the Fable games, especially Fable 1 and what they're planning with Fable III. I don't have anything against the direction the Fable series is going and I loved Fable II, but this should only stay with Fable and maybe other third-party developers; its a bad idea IMO to implement this for Dragon Age 2, which we want to have the same amount of choice that Dragon Age Origins had.
<_< I'm very skeptical now about Dragon Age 2's development. I was confident that I would be able to buy it without renting it first, but now I'm gonna have to be cautious and rent it first.

Hmm. What if we changed more about a future Dragon Age than you might like? Quel horreur!
I imagine it would look something like this:
Stage 1: Denial
Posts of "no, it can't be true!" and "maybe they didn't mean what we think it means!"
Stage 2: Anger
As the truth sinks in, posts of "Bioware, you have betrayed all that is good and righteous!" and furious predictions of financial collapse and boycotts, etc. etc.
Stage 3: Bargaining
Hopeful posts of "Well, if we don't get X will we still get Y?" and "Well, since there's still Z maybe X won't seem that bad" or even "Will we be able to change X ourselves?"
Stage 4: Depression
"Bioware is dead", "RPG's are dead", etc. ad nauseum as that glorious, scintillating might-have-been is now really gone.
and finally Stage 5: Acceptance
You see whatever game it is for what it actually is and enjoy it on its own terms.
or, alternatively Stage 5: Acceptance
You realize it's not the game for you, but might be for other people. You move on.
or, if you really must, you go back to Stage 1: Denial
You refuse to accept the presence of X in your beloved game, or any game for that matter, and begin a bitter campaign to convince everyone else that it is the travesty you think it is. If you play the game, you are determined to hate it-- and voila! You do! Possibly you hang out on RPG Codex.
...at least, that's how it usually happens. Or so I've found over the years.
I believe we're about to enter Stage 2 pretty soon
