Indeed, if you make a count:

Zaeed - 560 points
Normandy Crash Site - 160 points
Cerberus Weapon and Armor - 160 points
Cerberus Arc Projector - 160 points
Firewalker Pack - 160 points
Total: 1200 points

So, you got what you paid for.

The idea that the entire Firewalker pack (which involved actual content, even if it wasn't "Bioware Gold Standard" quality) would be/should be as much as a simple heavy weapon is exactly what's wrong with the mentality of DLC prices these days :P

Due to that, I think we haven't quiiiiiiite got to the point where Cerberus is worth $15 for people who buy the game used, but it's getting close. If they decide to throw one more multi-mission pack for a new feature (there's still room for one new vehicle in the hangar bay), that'd probably make it.

Although, if you buy the game used for, say, $20 --- we're never going to get to the point where Cerberus is going to be worth $15 compared to the main game.

So... hm.

Granted that can be said of any DLC. I got COD3 for 7 bucks and it still has DLC that costs 10 bucks on the marketplace.

Are you suggesting that a new copy of Mass Effect 2 would have been $15 less if the Cerberus Network didn't exist?

pretty much

I don't think so. Mass Effect costing was on par with every other game out there.

Rather I think if Cerberus didn't exist, Mass Effect would still cost the same, but Profits for the game would be higher, as they would be getting an extra $15 for no extra work.

You're mad.  It's a brand-new game...It was going to be $50/$60 no matter what.

I was under the impression that "The Cerberus network" is primarily an investment to help distribute content digitally and can be applied to all their other games like Dragon age for instance - although it's not called that in that case. In an accounting sense I doubt the development costs would be factored into the cost, profit margins or sell price of ME2 at all.

Absolutely. That's where my "So hm." comes from.

Their idea is to try to snag some cash from secondary market customers. I don't inherantly disagree with that.
However, because of the issue I/you are mentioning... I don't think it's going to work very well.

The one way it might work out is if they begin to offer scaling DLC prices. Right now I can go out and buy, say, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed for $10 used (it can be had for $15 new, so this is probably reasonable). The DLC packs (3 of them, I think?) cost $10. They have since release.
So am I going to spend $10 (the same price as what I paid for the game) on a mission pack that includes a fraction of the amount of content of the main game? Of course not.
I am I going to pay $30 for all 3 mission packs? 300% of what I paid for the actual game? Even crazier!
However, if they'd gradually scaled the price of the DLC down to match the current retail price of the game over time (thus being $2.50 per pack now to match the $15 retail price versus the original $60), I'd probably consider it - even buying used.

But, because that hasn't happened, that's $2.50-7.50 Lucasarts wouldn't be getting from me.

Similarly, I can't imagine I'd be buying Kasumi as a used game buyer today. But if, a year from now, Kasumi cost a buck or two instead of 7, I'd probably consider it.

But, this is all conjecture and theory. So I'll close again with the non-commital "So.... Hm." =]

The Cerberus Network is partly a method for EA to prevent used console games sales (because they have to buy the Network, canceling out the savings from buying used) as well as a pipeline for BioWare to finish up content that they didn't complete in time for release.

I'm still hoping they release the Incisor rifle sometime around the Overlord dlc. Or some other weapon/armor pack. It be damn cool if they did.

Tropical Punch.

Unless you can prove that BioWare was holding back the content instead of working on it after the game went gold, I'm still correct.

I don't think you'll have the option of siding with the Overlord. Even if you do, why would you? It probably wants to wipe out all organic life like every other rogue VI/AI we've encountered (excluding Legion).

While the Incisor may not be so useful for Shepard (I don't know, I don't have it), I hear it's an absolute monster in the hands of your teammatesImage IPB.

Casey did say part of it is human.

Anyone remember a Star Trek: TOS episode called The Ultimate Computer. A computer called M5 hijacks the Enterprise and attacks other ships. Kirk eventually convinces the M5 that what it is doing is wrong, and it destroys itself, under the rationale that "the penalty for murder is death". I figure the final showdown between Overlord and Paragon Shep will resolve in a similar manner, while Renegades will be a little bit more... triggerhappy.

I haven't checked out any of the interviews yet...interesting. But I imagine the outcome will be the same in the end (Overlord perishes), albeit either in a kind of cruel way depending on what you choose.

Has anyone noticed that in the cargo hold with the shuttle and hammerhead there is an open slot for another vehicle? It is in front of where the Hammerhead is held. I hope this is used for another DLC adventure. I will be getting Overlord on launch day! Looking forward to it.

Have you proven that they have not? This is my biggest problem with the new DLC mentality publishers have; it feels like they cut out bits just to sell it us later on.

Before firewalker came out, if you looked at the description when you went to the engineering deck, it said Hammerhead Garage.

Of course, that was free though; they could have cut it to polish it.

And the doors leading to the extra crew members were there already too, just locked. How surprising. I wont be getting the Overlord pack or Kasumi, as the free (well actually we paid for it already in the game cost I guess) content of Zaeed and Hammerhead shows the gameplay length and its not worth for just an extra 90mins.
