The hovertank sections i didn't like so much, but storywise and lenghtwise- perfect. and the ending scene- it's probably the best in the entire game (ok, maybe second). The emotion, the soundtrack... that was some heavy s**t... THX BIOWARE

Hey guys i
have a question about dlc. i just bought overlord although i don't know
what to do, should i play this before or after the end of the game? I
'm asking this because i don't know how you will import on mass effect
3. Please HELP!
I don't think it matters when you play the dlc throughout the story.

I understand that it would be kinda hard (and costly) to bring back all squad-members for some extra voice recording but that is the only thing I kinda missed hearing some small monologs from squadies saying something like; "this geth ship creeps me out Shepard"
but still a great dlc

I recommend playing the DLC after the suicide mission. It doesn't matter import wise, but story wise, I recommend playing after you have finished it.

The bad (by category):
Story / Dialogue
1) Very little dialogue. The story is pretty much non-existent until the last 15 minutes. There are 2 real conversations and a lot of "quips" from Archer, which leads me to number 2.
2) Simon Templeman. Now, don't get me wrong, he's a fine voice actor, but when he's already voicing at least one other character in the same game the least he can do is disguise his voice a little... Grating.
3) Silent party. I know, "VA's are expensive and we can't get them all back!!" Still a negative.
4) Proving that Shepard is a full-blown cyborg. That was stupid. Lazarus was hard enough to swallow with its implications alone; I didn't need this DLC proving that my character is largely a robot.
5) The LOKI mech scene. It wasn't funny. It felt very awkward and out of place.
6) The "end choice". It wasn't very compelling, and it's not like we've never seen anything like this before. The presentation was nice, though. I'll give it that.
Hammerhead - Yep, gets its own category!
1) Tin foil armor. It sucks.
2) Spastic hopping to avoid enemy fire or forcing you to retreat and come back repeatedly.
3) Vulcan station platforming. WTF! This was awful and insanely cheesy. This is the last thing I expected from ME.
4) What are we, stupid? Not only do we have a "proximity meter" to our destination, but we also have a red arrow pop up over the Hammerhead every three seconds telling us where to go? Insanely annoying. What ever happened to the "click the analog stick to see the direction to your next goal"?
5) The mineral/data gathering sequence is annoying. Why is the Hammerhead shaking like an epileptic when trying to retrieve something from the terrain?
6) All the warping. I miss actual control. Why can't I get out of the Hammerhead whenever I want? Why am I forced to "warp" to the on-foot combat zones? MAKO was much better in about every way.
Puzzles and Combat
1) The puzzles were extremely simplistic. It all felt more like busy work than compelling gameplay. This is mostly from Prometheus station.
2) Hammerhead combat is awful, as noted in the HH section.
3) Brain-washed Geth and mechs are not compelling enemies. Again it just feels like busy-work, blasting your way through a pile of scrap metal just because.
Payoff
1) No real reward to speak of. No bauble for my cabin, no conversations with the party, no weapons, maybe one or two "research upgrades", which are not unique or rewarding to find. "The experience" alone is not a payoff.
The good! (Wait, there's good!? NO WAY!!)
1) The last fifteen minutes. Disregarding what I said earlier, the last fifteen minutes were actually decent. The plot was decent for these 15 minutes and the combat was somewhat fun. I liked the boss fight, though it was extremely short and simple..
2) The graphics. Things looked nice. Pretty areas. The last fifteen minutes also look very interesting.
3) Disregarding what I said about Templeman's voice, the VA (what there was of it) was pretty good. I like Hale's delivery.

He/She has a few extra parts, but these were enough for the VI to hack into and create a Virtual Reality where Shep could see what happened before the incident.

I have to respectfully disagree. I understand what you are saying and agree to an extent, but the narrative, what little there is, puts the dlc firmly before the SM. If it wasn't for that, I'd completely agree w/ you.

Well, Shepard is by no means a full blown cyborg.

There was enough cybernetics for Shepard to be full-blown possessed and forced to walk out the door. So brain and motor functions can be hacked by a computer... Cyborg.

Fells like someone took my thoughts and wrote them down.
Only point I don't agree on the Geth killing part. Geth are the most enjoyable enemies to fight, then again I do play as an engineer so I'm kind biased <_<

The Bad:
The lack of voice acting. I was expecting at least one sencente from Tali or Legion.
The lame reaper joke.
The hammerhead plataform part, seriously... no.
The Good:
The whole geth ship (from Hammerhead combat to escape)
The ending.

I agreed with you, specially the platform part (full of s#&t) and the ending (the best part of the game), it was like.. like.. poor guy. Seriously, those kind of dramatic endings always makes me feel bad. Only two times happened this to me in a game, the first was hl2 ep2 and this is the second
I'll give 4 out of 5 stars
Good work Bioware, please keep this kind of level for the next dlcs

I have only three criticisms: the Overlord's speech got annoying very quickly (at least until you could actually understand what was being said), the Hammerhead is still terrible in a proper fight (it can only really stay safe by taking potshots at the enemies, which is not what a tank should have to do), and the platform-jumping sequence felt very out of place.
Apart from that, this DLC was fantastic, and if BioWare manages to top even this, I'll be incredibly pleased.

I thought the story was very compelling. The atmosphere of the DLC sucked me in from the very first fights, and I found especially the cutscenes to be excellent. The original music was great, and up until the end the atmosphere was wonderfully creepy. I actually felt like there was a definite urgency in the mission, and that it was important. I would've appreciated more dialogue, especially some with the crew members, but what was there was still enough for me to feel immersed in the story.Mystranna Kelteel wrote...

I don't believe Shepard is largely a robot. I do feel ME2 does a very poor job in addressing what exactly the Lazarus project did to Shepard (hell, if I were her, I would've squeezed the truth out of Miranda as soon as there was time to take stock), but I keep hoping this is a story element that will be important (and adequately handled) in ME3. Perhaps that hope is in vain, but there it is. So, cyborg yes, robot no. While I don't know exactly what happened in the scene Mystranna refers to, I believe (hope?) that it had more to do with, say, the omnitool and the nanobots in Shep's system than a full-blown prosthetic brain or some mysterious Reaper tech.Mystranna Kelteel wrote...

To me, the end choice felt very compelling and even personal, even though it didn't personally affect Shepard. Admittedly, it probably had a lot to do with the relationship between the people involved (trying to avoid spoilers here) and my personal feelings when it comes to such relationships, but I found the ending deeply moving. I've played it twice now with different Shepards, and even on the second playthough I got teary-eyed in the end. Any narrative that makes me cry, even almost, is good stuff in my book.Mystranna Kelteel wrote...

The rest of the Hammerhead criticism I completely agree with, but not with this part. I actually think that platforming with the Hammerhead makes perfect sense (in terms of what kind of a vehicle it is) and was even rather fun. Maybe it's a little silly too, but I didn't mind it. I do, however, mind that I can't save when driving the damn thing. This combined with the pathetic shielding and the fact that there's no proper way to know when the cardboard shields are down makes for a very annoying gaming experience. Yes, Mako had its faults, but there were some things it did right. I would also like to be able to leave the vehicle when I want to, and most of all I would like to be able to determine its condition at all times. Having an alarm and some smoke come out a second before I blow up is not enough of a tell, especially when I can't save the game when I want to.Mystranna Kelteel wrote...

I think the experience was a much better payoff than any bauble or piece of equipment. Then again, I play games mainly for the experience, so perhaps this is just a style difference. However, the experience would have been enhanced if there were party conversations, so in that regard, I agree.Mystranna Kelteel wrote...

All in all, I thought Overlord was the best ME DLC yet. Hopefully there's still more in store for us. I would really love to see some DLC that takes place after finishing the main mission.
