Yes Persona 3/4 absolutely amazing but gameplay that requires me to grind through monotony of the same hallways over and over... Meh. Persona though struck a decent balance with the inclusion of key NPCs that you get involved with.

Has anyone ever fallen asleep tapping x button while grinding just to be able to beat a boss?

I love how Bioware tells Jrpgs to go to hell! Bosumjack is right I have played a few jrpgs and they are hardly interactive.

Same with Bioware, though with some of the JRPGs games I played, I believe they are MORE interactive compared to Bioware. Shin Megami Tensei, anyone?

Lol. I can't belive anyone whould play that. But more power too you if you do.

But the fact is JRPG companies like Square Enix have been putting forth nothing new or intivative in the past years(to be fair, of course there are exceptions).  Bioware has pushed new gameplay techniques, therefore they have earned the right to tell JRPG companies like Square Enix to "suck it", and game sales support the fact they have indeed earned the right to do so.

Well, you cant really compare magic to physics. Magic is magic and can do incredible things, because ITS MAGIC. But man wielding a sword of same size as himself and balance-point somewhere far away in the tip just looks wierd and impractical. Obviously real-life physics have no place in fantasy full of insane jumps and whatever but basics should still be there just because of added believability.

I understand what you mean but by default RPG laws of physics are far from reality in any game. You would not survive a dragon stomping on you no matter what your armor was, nor would you be able to swing a sword like Starfang being as skinny as the female characters are, much less wearing the blood dragon armor. Dwarves happily weild axes their size and do acrobatics that would be well beyond the posibilities of people with compressed leg muscles, etc.

Whilst the appearances might be closer to reality, it is still not accurate by a long shot... so why should we determine where the expression of "cool" is actually absurd, especially for a genre that is mainly geared towards a Japanese market? There are cultural reasons why the big swords and acrobatics are seen as cool around here: mostly because there is a reverence for people who can pull off similar things, and there is a cultural reverence to the dichotomy between big and precise, and spirit strength vs muscle power. Some might accept magic as a natural thing because of your cultural background that probably has told you such tales since you were little. Over here it is widely understood that when strong enemies comfront, waves of energy will emanate and impact surrounding environment; and that overly powerful people can weild such swords because of their inner strength.

"Believable" is a very subjective concept

Not me, then again you probably using the wrong Personas for the bosses. Also, Dragon Age gameplay is boring compared to the Persona 3 and 4.

Final Fantasy 12 was indeed quite new and innovative

EDIT:  So was the World ENds with You

Even the last Dragon Quest was a bit different from its predecessors

These are the same type of people that watch a Hong Kong Kung-Fu movie and wonder why the characters can fly.....

To be fair the amount of bullets fired without reloading in Hard Boiled was ridiculous.

I have heard the Shin Megami Tensei games are really cool. The only one I played was Persona on the original Playstation.

I'm tempted to give it a try yet at the same time I'm reluctant since I have heard you play as a bunch of high school kids.

I don't mean to sound shallow but we really already have far too many RPGs where you play as a teenage protagonist. I'm sick of it.

Play White Knight Chronicles, you can make your own character look like whatever you like. The multiplayer aspect is addictive and if you are a customization freak you will absolutely love the stat possibilities and the binding or items, accessories and equipment. 200 hours in and I haven't scratched the surface.

I think that the biggest irony is that he said that in an interview about a MMORPG. How is it a RPG without the Role Playing? Yes, you may create a Sith or a Jedi, but everyone is a Leroy Jenkins.
And have you ever seen anyone care about the story in a MMORPG?

I do agree that JRPGs haven't really changed, though...

Persona 2 Eternal Punishment almost all but one are adults, the only exception is one of them is a high school student, from Innocent Sin.

Strange Journey, you are an American soldier, enough said.

Add Digital Devil Saga to that list, though I haven't beaten the first one so I do not know exactly *what* they are so I guess I could be wrong

On the other hand imagine if all the characters were Wynne. The protagonist in 3 and 4 is almost too stoic. Very mature for his age. So he isn't going to get moody, refuse to come out of his room, wishes you would die for trying to enforce the "ground rules". You may find you enjoy the game. Give it a chance. You can probably pick up P3FES for dirt cheap now.;)

It's a welcome change from the typical 14-18 year old JRPG protagonist that we see in 99 percent of all JRPGs.
I'm 27 years old, I can no longer relate to little kids and that is important for me when I play a role playing game.
