Agreed. That was one seriously bad movie.

I was actually envisioning something that looks like Sacred Ashes. Would retain the voice actors from the game and all that. Wasn't thinking of live action or anything.

Movies made from games always turn out to be epic dross. Let's take Doom as the case in point...

Actually...I would be for that. The Sacred Ashes trailer looked and sounded great, honestly that's about the only way I'd want to see a DA movie come to think of it.

Still I'd say it's too early for DA to become a feature length anything other than videogame.

A live action film would fail. Now a CGI one now that would work well I think.

Worst movie idea ever. They could make a movie about paint drying and I'd watch that before watching any movie about Dragon Age.

hmmm, i believe i'm on a minority here but in my humble opinion a movie situated within Thedas, but with different characters, none of the game's party members, maybe featuring a warden (but not THE Warden) it's not a complete failure.

Maybe if the director uses one of David Gaider's books as a base the movie might not be bad. I don't know about you all, maybe i'll even be bashed and flamed, but i would pay to see "Dragon Age: Stolen Throne" on cinema for example.

I demand the main character be a dwarf! There aren't enough movie dwarves who aren't comic relief side characters.

Dwarves can't be main characters. They are too small. Same thing with gnomes etc.

Im serious, are there any fantasy books with a dwarf main character?

Hobbits are just as short and they did fine in LotR. And then there's the Hobbit.

Movie following plot of DA:O = facepalm.
...unless the Warden is a female dwarven warrior or a male elven mage.  Then it would be awesome, by virtue of originality.  A male HN warrior Warden would leave me depressed, though I'd still see it.

A male HN warrior who...
1. Broods and/or always gets the snarky "badass" lines.
2. Earns the respect of everybody in the entire camp.
3. Hardens Alistair into the greatest king ever, complete with a LOTR-style coronation scene.
4. Spares Loghain and convinces King Alistair (who makes up with him after said coronation, and confesses the Warden was right all along) to stay and rule.
5. Is torn between Morrigan and ("relateable good girl tricked by evil psycholesbian Marjorlaine") Leliana, dumps the bard, but is implied to hook back up with her again after Morrigan leaves him.
6. Has an American accent.
...on the otherhand, would make me boycott the film, deny its existance, and kick puppies.    Please, Bioware, if you're reading this... think of the puppies.

Movie set in Thedas unrelated to the Warden, however = yes please.   Maybe somewhere we don't know as much about, like Nevarra?

Let's face it, this would NOT be the worst video game adapted into a movie to be released, no matter what happensed.

I'm just not sure that:

A) Video games make for great movies - given that the story in a VG is necessarily driven by a single viewpoint, which does NOT make for an interesting movie.

B) You would do anything with Dragon Age when you had the Mass Effect franchise to exploit.

I would like it to use the animated cast from Sacred Ashes (though honestly I think Leliana is cuter in the game) and see it follow the story more or less. I would want it to be darker than DA:O actually was, closer to how they advertised it/Awakenings. I would ditch Shale, though, I just don't see her being that good a character for a feature film.

'Darker' is almost always a synonym for 'lamer' in movies. =/

Like, whenever you find out that the third in a trilogy is going to be 'darker' than the previous movies, it just means they replaced all the humour and cleverness with characters dying in stupid ways for bad reasons.

Hmm, I have serious trouble to imagine how you can make Dragon Age into a movie.

For: whats the story ?

- There is a new blight.
- Some main character joins the Grey Warden
- There is a big betrayal and large parts of the countries army get slaughtered and the king dies.
- The remaining Grey Wardens need to evade the hunters of the traitor.
- Main character, Alistair, Morrigan, Leliana and Sten go to Redcliffe and free it of the curse.
- I guess at this point, the movie would split the characters.
(1) The main character will, with Morrigan, go to the dwarves and meet Ohgren
(2) Alistair will go to the Mages and meet Wynne and Zevran
(3) Leliana, with Sten, goes to the elves and temporarily join forces with the elven Apprentice Lanaya
- The main character, Alistair, Morrigan, Leliana, Sten, Zevran (well and Dog) join forces; Wynne stays with the Mage Tower, Ohgren stays underground, Lanaya stays with her elves.
- The Urn of Sacred Ashes is found.
- There is a big showdown where the Traitor gets forced to join the Grey Wardens and a new king (Alistair) is elected.
- Finally the battle against the arch demon.

Much too much material. You would have to cut this stuff, and change it substantly.

Helena Bonham Carter as Morrigan.

Cool choice, except ... she's too old.

The first Resident Evil wasn't a complete disaster and was quite fun.

The Resident Evil movies are all fun, but the last one was the best. Still they havent ever motivated me to play the original game.

Kate Winslet? Hell no. Keira Knightley maybe :)

Keira Who ?

Kate Winslet is too old. The main character is like 24, at most.

This would be a BAD idea do to the fact that Mel Gibson would probably end up playing Loghain.

Truly a horrifying concept.

Mel Gibson isnt cool enough to get lightyears near this project. Come on, theres no big money in it. Much better to make a bloodbath movie about Jesus crucifixation, get drunk and curse Jews ...

I actually enjoyed Doom, though the story was quite dim.

Yep, of course ? Nothing I would watch a second time, but first time was quite fun, especially since the movie didnt take itself serious. All in all probably the best game based movie after Resident Evil.

Err, you could do a stream of movies this way.  Also do all kinds of other places than Ferelden, like Orlais and Antiva and whatnot.

There would be no way in hell that they would pull off a workable version of dragon age. If they would ever touch the dragon age franchise it would need a lotr size budget to even get close to a decent movie. Not to mention everyone who's story gets ignored (read half the fans who think the wardens sex is wrong, the other 5/6ths whining about the origin being wrong...etc.) will throw a fit.

Same goes for mass effect. How epically will they fail? I mean seriously you can't take a game with choices and turn it into a one story fits all movie. They better be making a prequell or something because it just won't work xD

I know how I would do a Dragon Age movie. I'd have an ensemble cast. Rather than casting the companions, I'd have every Origin. I'd have female human noble, city elf and dwarf commoner. I would have male dwarf noble, mage and dalish elf. The City elf and the dwarf commoner would be rogues, the nobles and the dalish would be warriors. Daveth and Jory would die, Alistair would be there as the only companion and would be the female noble's love interest.

I'd follow the plot from the game with the various decision points producing the conflict in the movie (Bhelen vs Harrowmount for example)

Hollywood would never make it that way.

The most likely movie would be a Jerry Bruckheimer production of a Uwe Boll movie starring Keanu Reeves as Duncan, Jake Gyllenhaal as the warden and Keira Knightley as Wynne.

I think one should simply cut out the Origin, and assume both the Dwarves and the Elves, unlike in the game, have no trouble. So one would start with the battle at Ostagar, then go Lothering - Redcliffe - Mage Tower - Denerim - Urn of Sacred Ashes - Landsmeet - final battle.

I guess one would also skip over companions. I guess one could go Alistair - Morrigan - Leliana - Sten. Wynne would stay at the Tower, Zevran would be killed in his attack, Ohgren wouldnt appear at all, Dog would also be skipped.

And I would really love to have some reasoning why the Darkspawn dont try to conquer Redcliffe, Denerim and other places. You have a large army on the rampage, it should wreck havoc, shouldnt it ?

Thats hopefully a compact enough script to yield an only 2-3 hour long movie in the end.
