For me:
HNM Geoff   hmm that's me... (not too original)
HM Daylen (I just like the name)
EM Anardil  (this is Tolkien;  it means 'sun lover' or more literally 'royal fire lover')

I just sat in front of my computer and thought about a name that could fit for an elf.
Finally he was named Glemdalin.

Mage - Megami because it's half of my online persona
HNF - Nekohime because it's the other half of my online persona
DCM - Huzzah because I couldn't think of anything else at the time. (lol)

DNFW - Merida (Pixar's Brave tribute)
HNMW - Johan (kinda myself)
HNMR - Jonathan (That's me again)
CEW - Adrasteia (ancient greek name which means "unescapable fate")

My most recent character is Immanuel Cousland, named after flamboyant gay italian musician Immanuel Casto. Usually, however, I just pick a very exotic language (like Afrikaans, for example) on the Google Translator and try some meaningful words (like "bear", "hero" or "axe") until I find a cool sounding name.

I normally use Lanyia and try to be an elf or at least a Mage in every game. My name's Lani (pronounced Larn-ee) so I wanted something that sounded more medieval. I normally pronounce it Lar-Neigh-ah but it could be pronounced Larn-Yee-Ah as well. I like it lol.

Justarius. It's my generic name for all my characters unless I make more than one.

I do not remember the names of my characters but i name them something funny(that is i try) cus i played too many games to stay serious. BUT the dog (wich i discovered to my delight) i named Hekata, in memory of my fathers dog who was highly inteligent. She was named after a godess http://en.wikipedia....iki/Hecate      and was killed by some idiot who just wanted to try out his new hunting rifle while my dad was away on work. I to had a dog that was poisond... So hers to Donna and Hecata, we will see them again

I just finished the last of the Origin stories, not one character finished the whole game yet, they're all still busy fighting the Blight:

Ehlora: female city elf,
Thalinxas: male elf mage,
Björn: dwarf commoner warrior
Rowan: human noble rogue
Undorian: dalish elf warrior,
Seresta: dwarf noble rogue.

I got 2 criteria for names: they have to sound right and preferably be unique. I made exceptions for Björn ('bear' in Old Norse), Rowan (existing name), Seresta (a benzodiazipine, but it sounds good).

To my distress I found out Ehlora isn't unique at all in the game: there's an elf girl called Elora tending the deer in the Dalish camp!

Elven Mage: Mesmer

This is of course based on Franz Mesmer, from which we get the term mesmerize.

I've used Mesmer for mages since 8-bit Wizardry (Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord). :)

Jeffrey Cousland's name comes from my own first name.

Belorfin Tabris is named after my second (and most memorable) Neverwinter Nights character, Belorfin Siana, a half-elf who was created in 2002.

I have a strong preference for mages since I love magic.

Female elf mage: Vixie based off my real name and main nickname (Victoria, a.k.a. Vicki). Also a reference to The Fox and the Hound and the fact that foxes are my favorite animal.

Male human mage: Cristo. Obvious literary reference there plus it fits the fantasy setting better than Christopher or Chris.

I only change the name of the Dalish Male Elf to Faolan, which, if I remember correctly, it means wolf. Theron reminds me too much of 300. xD

My first character, a mage which I never finished (king alistair broke up with me D: ) I named her Fire, because you mess with fire, you get burned... hehe, clever, right? My second canon city elf warrior I named Naleigh. Took a really, really long time to come up with this one, I just sat staring at the screen. I don't even know how I came up with it. I really love it though, it kinda almost rhymes with my real name. Ever since then, I have always named my subsequent Wardens, Hawkes, and Inquisitor Naleigh. Yes, they all have the same name. And my character in da4/5/6 will be named Naleigh too. I've never played a male character. Well, I have started a male playthrough (in Origins) just for the sake of seeing the different origin stories, but I never went past Ostagar so I don't count those. I plan on starting third da2 pt, I plan on playing default male Hawke and I'm going to leave his name default, too, most likely, but maybe change it to Aaron, not sure yet.

My new female Noble Warrior - Gwyneth Cousland, was originally supposed to be Guinevere, but I liked how Gwyneth sounds.

Default names work fine for me. For example, "Kallian Tabris" is exactly how I imagine a female city elf would be called in the Dragon Age universe.

My new female Noble Warrior - Gwyneth Cousland, was originally supposed to be Guinevere, but I liked how Gwyneth sounds.

Gwyneth sounds more badass, therefore more appropriate for a warrior.  Guinevere sounds more like a name suitable for a mage.
