FYI: WIth the new processor, the ATI Radeon video card, 16 gb of ddr3 ram, and the video setings maxed the high definition play on DA is spectacular! It's almost 3D.

So I bought a new computer with an intel i7 processor and running windows 7 64 bit. When I fisrt tried to reinstall Origins, I was having issues with the DLC showing as downloaded, but not appearing as installed. Since it was midnight when I go to this point I shut off the computer, went to bed, and researched solutions the next day. So yesterday I sat down, through in my disc and the computer could not find it. After chatting with EA support, we decided to download the game from a EA downloader and reinstall. Well, I'm not patient I could not wait 9 hours. So I had my husband (who keeps his dvd's immaculate) clean my disc and decided to reinstall from the blue ray drive instead of the dvd drive. The install went smoothly and all of the dlc downloaded and installed correctly. Just to test, I created a character before patching. No problems. So I patched. Everything worked fine. I installed all my third party mods and imported my character saves. No problems whatsoever. I ran my DN through part of the Wending Woods without issue and played my new Dalish archer in the Kokari wilds with no problem. Then I saw this othe post about dvd drives not recognizng discs and this got me to thinking maybe there are firmware issues with some dvd players that could be causing a lot of the issue with game play that have been posted. My husband often has issues with his blue ray discs because of encoding requiring updated firmware. Could this be the case for some the Origins and Awakenings issues? Could this simply be a conflict between the disc encoding and some of the dvd players?

Would you please do everyone a favor with your post. Wall to all blocks of text without adequate punctuation is just too hard to try to read. If there was helpful material buried in there, I'm sure that I speak for many people, please break it all up into more usable chunks, if you will.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Disregard @Gorath Alpha's comment... I read your entire post and it wasn't hard; however, I've not a complete idea of what the problem is regarding your questions about the DVD drives and what not but I'm sure someone out there has an answer.
So bump for you.

So you do not like to read. I used periods, caps in the appropriate places, commas to separate thoughts within a complete sentences (sometimes for creative pause). Since the paragraph was all referencing the one subject within the narrative I do not understand how pucutation in a long paragraph could be an issue.
Yes. I am a poor typist. This is exacerbated by the fact that I use a stiff wrist brace to correct for a chronic injury to my wrist.
I also tend to write long complex sentences. I simply assume people are intelligent enough to understand what is being said.
Now, do you have anything relevant to say?

Actually, I wondered the same thing myself. The problem is that not all drive makers provide updated firmware on anything like a regular basis (or at all for that matter), and even if in some cases people have hacked the firmware to fix bugs themselves, there are still drives where you just can't flash the chip without a lot of effort and/or extra equipment. Still, it'd be pretty useful to know which drives are which, because if DA is causing problems, it's fairly likely other DVDs will too at some point.
Anyway, you never said whether or not you tried flashing the firmware on your drive (or what model it is). Reason I ask is, you could still test it simply by trying to run the game from that drive, instead of having to do a reinstall. I'm guessing you've been too busy slaughtering Darkspawn and mastering your taint and whatnot, which is perfectly understandable.

Ignore Gorath. Everyone does, as he never says anything actually helpful or important to anyone and is just here to troll and be a nuisance.
And a lot of people use cracks and they still have problems, so i dont think it has anything to do with drives...

Not necessarily. There may be more than one cause that results in that same error message, so updating firmware could still solve it for many folks. Besides, the only way to know is for a bunch of people with the missing disc error to actually test it. Until then, we're all just guessing.
