The Broodmother could take sum explaining

im 36 and that messed my head up when i saw that scene

Eh, the cinematic at Ostagar should have told how ugly and monstrous the darkspawn are supposed to be. The hurlocks look kind of like zombies to me, and that smiling genlock... priceless. I didn't think the broodmother was that bad, but take into account I'm a person who is laughing through horror movies most are jumping and cringing to.

Dragon Age is really one of the tamest games out there when it comes to sex & violence, compared to other titles kids play nowadays. Heck, even Valkyria Chronicles is more dark & mature.

The main reason why the game is rated mature, to me at least, is not really implied sex or graphic violence. Any fourteen year old would be exposed to the level of it in TV and movies today.

It is for the decisions you can make and the consequences it involves. You are often faced with morally ambiguous choices with no right or wrong answer. You can't always choose a 'good' solution. What if you can only save one person, a mother and a child? And then have to talk to the survivor after.

It's also worth noting that a lot of the games content consists of exploring dialogues with various characters in the game. If he is only interested in the action, this may be the wrong kind of game for him.

Ultimatly those ratings are guidelines. I am a parent too and I know children mature differently. If you do think your child is mature enough to handle the game I would encourage you to take the time to discuss the content of the game, once he starts playing, and see if you can get a feeling for how he reacts to it. It will make you involved in what he does and in the best of worlds you will find it a starting point for a good discussion about moral choices in general.

Dragon Age is so mature, because you can like, cut people's heads off! And stuff! That is like, woah, man, I am getting a raging hard-on just thinking of all that blood.  I feel like a big man!  Dragon Age makes me want to **** sofas, that's how mature it is.

the game is mature. the violence should bother you more than the sexual content. there really isn't that much. i have a 12 year old, and she can't play it yet. not sure she wants to or not, but she can't. :-) if you're letting him play wow and ac2, then there's really no reason to ask about dragon age. he may not get the more adult themes and choices, but killin' stuff and chopping off heads is cool to almost any 14 year old. kicking butt will be what matters most to him. if you're that concerned, you could always rent it first and test it yourself.

Wow, really? I can't believe there's actually some posts here that state that he should not play the game because he is not mature enough. Really? Do you actually think that just because someone is not 'mature' that they will not be able to differentiate between reality and a video game? Do you honestly think that doing so is a lost art that only an adult is able to perform?

I don't care if he was five, if a video game truly caused a child that was normal to begin with to become insane psychopaths, there would be far more crime than there is now. If you know that it doesn't cause them to be an insane psychopath, then why do you even care if children play it? You don't want them to laugh at something on the screen? Why do you care? It is a shame that you brainwash your children with garbage about maturity and video games. It's a game. Get over it.

I don't care what content the game has, anyone of any age should be able to play them. Just because someone is young, that does not mean you hold any authority over them.

I think people are just underestimating the cognitive ability of fourteen year olds. Making a choice to kill a possessed child in a work of fiction might sound horrible, but do you all really think your fourteen year-old selves wouldn't be able to handle it? At that age we were reading things like 1984 and Mockingbird in school, which are all (I think) much more direct and dark with their relative themes than Dragon Age ever was.

Of course, in literature it's just fine to allude to rape and sexuality and racism, but if you do it in a game the sky will collapse upon itself.
