I was under the impression that whatever blue prints were in the base would be imprinted into the mind of the collector general who was killed in either ending, since you know the Reapers wouldn't be so careless. Even if there were blue prints laying around, how is anyone supposed to understand the language?

Not true at all, other wise, how would people know how to read and speak ancient egyptian hieroglyphics (admittedly, not everyone can do this, but egyptologists can!) now since you know, there are no ancient egyptian's anymore. Not only that, but you don't honestly think that Turian's speak English do you? At some point some middle ground was found.

Technical specifications are logical (if complicated), this is why traditionally scientific endeavours may start slow, but rapidly speed up. Someone had to decipher the Prothean relics on Mars because like the Turians, I doubt they were delivered to us in English (or Chinese, etc).

The reason they can translate it is the rosetta stone and documents from the ancient greeks preserved by the arabs. The different races are able to understand eachother because of a translator through the codex.

You're totally missing the point. How does the translator know what to translate into without someone already working out the common links? How does a translator codex know what the Turian word for water is and translates it into human English? Do you think it magically just happened? Of course not, it was worked out by someone at some time.

A wizard did it :wizard:
You have a point, but what frame of reference would they have for Reaper language or grammar structure. They probably needed an Asari prothean expert to fully understand what was on the ruins instead of just the Eezo tech. Or mayber they found something like the Rosetta stone that gave them a frame of reference.

I would imagine they discovered common word groupings and did the ole 'trial and error' approach of substitution, although I doubt the 'Reapers' have a language (other than machine? HAR HAR). If by Reaper you mean Prothean than I should imagine the experience was really no different than any language expert nowadays who studies extinct languages... maybe more complex/exciting since it originated on another world.

Wait, what are we talking about now? Language translators?

Are we still on Cerberus's incompetence? Because I have decided it is not a lack of competence but rather a gross disregard for the sanctity of human and alien life such that they are willing to spend it carelessly and irresponsibly to little or no worthwhile outcome.

Well, inefficient use of resources (warm bodies in this case) can also be called incompetence.

Is it the "Save the Council" choice we're talking about?

Why a rosetta stone type of Deus Ex Machina for translating ancient reaper languages would exist at all is beyond my imagination. But maybe one of those mysterious unknown Cerberus cells have found one. But if that is the case it probably huskified the whole cell as usual.

In any case knowing ancient prothean or reaper language doesn't help much when decoding information from the modern reapers or the collectors. The language have probably changed too much over time. Not to mention that the coding to hide valuable information from curious organics should have been improved as well. Add a strong dose of indoctrination and any reaper secrets should be quite safe.

I sacrificed 2000 lives to save 10,000 lives. I think that's fair. Better than Cerberus does, I'm thinking. Normally they're more the sacrifice 2000 lives to save negative -3000 lives type.

And no it wasn't about risking the whole galaxy. I had stopped Saren from turning control of the station over to Sovereign. Sovereign was locked out and unable to activate the relay. The only lives at stake were the soldiers.

Ka-cha!

Yes it was.

1. You couldn't be sure how long it'd hold on.
2. There was this Saren-Husk.

1. How long what would hold on?
2. At the time you make the decision there is no Saren-Husk yet.

1. Vigl's datafile.
2. Yes there is, and if *your* Shepard was acting on the notion that no such things as Saren-Husk (or worse) can happen around a billion-year-old 2km-long genocidal machine, (s)he was exactly what this thread claims Cerberus to be - inept.

An obvious answer would be ask EDI/the Geth.

Because, you know, they've demonstrated the ability to communicate and intereact with Reapers and Collector systems.

You could understand Sovereign  in the first game, so maybe they were able to learn the geth language and you don't need to understand the language to know that someone is trying to hack your systems.

1.It would still take Sovereign a while to gain control of the citadel and the humans seemed to get through with the geth before the arms opened up anyway.
2. Shep was probably prepared for something like that, but what good is the alliance fleet against the Saren Husk since they would have to attack the tower which would probably kill you.
