For some reason, Mass Effect 1 has no sound on my computer, except during loading screens and the Prothean vision sequences. Nothing I have done has solved the problem.

Incidentally, Mass Effect 2 works fine.

The most common sound related problem is when people try to run the game with hardware accelerated sound even if their hardware doesn't support it. You should check whether hardware sound is turned off in your settings and then restart the game.
