Decided to play through ME1 again for fun.  Did my last playthrough as a soldier so I thought I'd go Infiltrator this time and do the long range thing.  OMG I hate the sniper rifle so much!  I've not even past the Eden Prime mission and I'm SO SICK of the stupid thing.  Using the assault rifle just seems boring because that was my bread and butter on my last play through.  The uncontrolled wavering whenever you zoom in is simply too much for me.

Will lowering the game from veteran to normal help this?

I know that eventually I'll get stabilizer upgrade but I'm having a hard time finding the will to play and I'd REALLY like to try it as an Infiltrator....any advice?

Difficulty setting won't matter. You need 9 points in SR to get it really steady. Crouching helps too.

'til then you'll be like a drunk in an earthquake.

Even if you max up your sniper rifle, it would still shake when you first zoom in, but goes away pretty quickly in comparison if you don't have any points gone to the Sniper Rifle.

It certainly helps teach patience and timing. Other than that, I'd rather use the pistol until SR is high enough.

I was very glad to see the developers decided to have sniper rifles usable from the start in ME2. Because of the need to put points into the skill in ME1, the sniper rifle wasn't anywhere near usable until the end of Feros, which was usually my first or second main planet in ME1. Level 20, I guess? Probably can get it usable quicker than that, but I did like to spend some of my points in other skills in the beginning, too.

I'm in the same boat-6bloody sniper skill and it still wobbles like mad. Forced me to abandon my hardcore playthrough-I should've gone as a vanguard.

I managed Therum on hardcore afterwards, but that last boss fight is INSANE.

In ME1 sniper riffle is little hard to use, but in ME2 it's really easy and powerfull. I used sniper riffle only in two mission in ME1 and it worked that time fine, because I was doing really long distance shooting  with maxed sniper skill. In ME2 I use sniper riffle alot, it's really usefull there.

I played second time hardcore all missions in ME1 and I had no problems at all. Actually it was easyer for me than first time to get missions done.

Yes, the sniper is retarded in ME1. I never liked that.

However, useful against the big scary monsters like the Thresher Maw in the Sparta System.

I don't find it hard to use the sniper rifle in ME1 at all. The wobble follows a pattern. Once you get familiar with the pattern, you know when to pull the trigger for a perfect shot. I use it on Eden Prime as well as everywhere else.

Dunno what you are complaining about, the wobbling default is not worse than any other normal shooter game.

As infiltrator i got first rank of "Assasination" and then spewd points in pistol and tech, i did not bother to put more points in it again until about 26-28, it was more than stable enough to slaugther anything.

Troubles with Sniper Rifle stability may or may not be the result of a great wind.

They're also quite lousy compared to the shotgun and AR. I still use them, but only usually to take out other snipers or at range :(

ME2 snipers are alot better.

Yes, it follows a very regular pattern. Once that has been sussed, it's just a matter of shooting at the right time.

Yeah, I agree. It's not just the sniper rifle, every aspect about Mass Effect 2's gameplay is vastly superior of Mass Effect 1's.

Use the active sniper skill as often as possible for accurate shots.

Besides of that, enjoy the wavering! It´s the only time in ME1 your skill determines where your shot goes and not the lacking accuracy.

You´ll soon get used to the movement of the crosshair and learn to shoot accurate in spite of it.

As squirrely as the sniper rifle is in ME1, I still found a certain kind of satisfaction in mastering it and feeling the difference between the lower and higher skill levels. Once you've leveled it up a bit, it handles like a dream comparatively. Even so, once you know how the progression works, it's not so hard at the lower levels.

Duh it is called recoil get used too it. That happens in real life go shoot any other riffle, and see if you could hit a target that easily as in me2. I really got a wtf moment at how easy Me2 sniper riffle shooting was.

But then you'd never get used to it. I recommend you keep using it and leveling it up, until it's stabel enough and you're used to it.

I love the ME1 sniper rifle! The wobbly crosshair just adds to the challenge imo. I did a playthrough of using only a sniper and no other weapons and it was awesome. Unfortunately it's not as powerful when fighting bosses like in ME2, but that is offset by the unlimited ammo. Sometimes it takes like 15 shots to drop a geth colossus or a defence turret. Gotta love the sound of the sniper shots in ME1, it's so badass.

Well I've gotten much better with it. TBH my first ME playthrough I didn't even touch the thing so it's a whole new experience for me. I must say that the ME2 sniper rifle made me want to start over as an infiltrator and while I've gotten much better at using it...I've found it's usefulness to be almost zilch. I've had two occasions where there has been enough space to use it....for everything else I'm just trigger spamming my pistol. *sigh* Might be time to just go back to ME2.

it's totally easy, and simple. try using certain weapon upgrades to stabilize your accuracy ratings (the higher the better).:alien:

I totally agree, it was far and away my favorite weapon. My Infiltrator would kill enemies long before they saw him most of the time.

 Badass indeed.

Ok so after upgrading to the Spectre sniper rifle, adding two kinetic stabalizers, and putting 8 points in both sniper rifles and spectre training....it's now badass...

Have you found the second level of zoom yet for the sniper rifle??

Also once you get used to it, you should really have a Scram Rail and heat sink with either tungsten or Shredder ammo. Don't use explosive unless you just want to see ragdoll in action(doesn't do more damage, just throws people around and overheats your gun), but the others do so much more damage, if for no other reason than more shots per minute.
