Bioware: Could we please have some continuity in the romance department?

If (and I hope it is) Dragon Age 2 is being made, INCLUDE Leliana's return at the very least. The issue with a lot of RPGs that have romances is that your character suddenly forgets about your previous lover, and suddenly the entire point just seems to get into someone's pants, which entirely contradicts the whole idea of a hero.

You know, the thing about Dragon Age (and Mass Effect) is that your character is forced to be a bastard as new content comes out.
My character was forced to have unwed parents?
But as already said DA2 will likely cover a totally different time span in the history of Thedas and not have reoccuring characters.

This same issue happened with Mass Effect love interests. People want to be able to continue their storyline exactly where they left off, but that imo, is simply not realistic for a full budget game. It does come down to making a game that has wide enough appeal that a sequel does not require the customer to have played the 1st game. Truthfully, this was a huge issue in the ME community and ME is actually advertised as a persistent trilogy, while Dragon Age is not.

The number of people that want DA to be a dating sim is staggering. The next DA should come with a disclaimer- "DA characters and love interests should not be confused with real life."
It's a bit creepy actually, but not nearly as bad as the Mass Effect board. I don't bother with the ME forums much anymore since it seems to be populated by a group of demented furries. I'll qualify that by saying that it's not all of the posters on that board but there sure seem to be a bunch of them. I've seen some fan art over there that makes my skin crawl.

I get that some (arguably) take it a bit too far but in my mind there is no doubt that the relationships were a crucial element of the game. Having continuity of characters and LI is key to the appeal of any new content involving my Grey Warden(s).
The story and well thought out characters made me care about them in a similar way to when watching a good film or reading a good book, not a feeling I often get with a game.
I did think that the way the relationships were concluded was pretty weak, and hope that there is some kind of expansion that will resolve this for all the LI characters.
I have no problem with completely new story/characters for DA2 but I will be wary of buying if the story in DAO is not brought to a more satisfactory conclusion as there’s little point in buying into a story driven game if the ending is, well, not an ending…
But I do think there will be more to come

We already know that there will be DLC starring Leliana for Awakening so you might want to wait whether this continues your romance with her or not. For DA 2 it has to be seen who will be the PC, I guess.
Is it the case that the DLC 'stars' Leliana? Is it not just that the voice actor let the cat out of the bag that she was doing a DLC? Maybe all the LI will be in this, maybe there will be continuity for all.

When I heard that there wasn't going to be any romance options in Awakening I wasn't really disappointed, I wouldn't ever want DA to be a dating sim. Having the option to have romances, however, does add a deeper immersion level to the game and the world it's based in.

I don't even bother with the Liara/Garrus obsessors. They irritate me. I don't even go on the ME board anymore. Too much creepy fanart.
I do understand why you feel this way about LIs, but having a romance isn't to fill the void of your own non-existent romantic life, nor is it solely made for the sexually repressed gaming nerds. Love is a big part of life, and sometimes it's nice to see two people fall for eachother, especially from a female perspective. Granted, you don't want sappy Alistair talk 24/7 in every game you play, but it is nice to see a sentimental side to a character. It reveals more about them and lets you into their life even more, which adds to the story, even more.

While some people do seem to go out there a little more then they should, (haven't been in the ME forums though I've been around long enough to know what forums to avoid like the plague. ) I don't think people asking for continued and/or fleshed out romances is akin in anyway to asking for a dating sim or an attempt to compensate for anything. It's a love story mixed in with other various stories and some people want to see it given more focus. I don't view anything creeping or abnormal with people who enjoy the love story aspect of BioWare games or in general, in reality it's one of the things that allows BioWare to stand out.

People don´t want a dating sim. We just want interesting and well-written romace plots.
And please don´t come up with "You don´t need romances in a video game, get a life!" or I´ll respond: "You don´t need video games AT ALL, get a life!"

That coming from someone with "Alistair / Zevran Fan club" in her sig is almost funny in its ridiculousness.

DA is not a love story. ME is not a love story. I agree that having a love interest is a plus for BW games- it's a tried and true plot device in any form of narative entertainment.Tirigon wrote...

But geez.... People are obsessing about a side story. And it does get creepy after a while. Also, to be honest, I don't think people want well written romance plots. Morrigan was very well written. People want sticky sweet endings for their great love affair. Imagine the outcry if Zev or Leliana break up with you in an add on. To bad BW doesn't have the balls because I would love to see it. The boards would erupt.

Ho yes. You just can't get worse than Tali fetishists. Their multiple Tali fanthreads reach around a thousand + pages in the space of a week.
Romance is fine and dandy when it compliments the rest of the game. But by itself its laughable. A "romance pack" DLC would be one of the most pathetic things I can imagine - as though the entire world Bioware has established can be put on hold because Leliana needs a new pair of shoes

Rumor has it that there will be a Li----DLC (me I hope not I can't stand her)
A lil romance is fine as long as it balances well with the game
I recall playing one game on the ps1 long time ago there was lil battle plots but big romance and the story line was really thin I just hope the next dragon age game if there is one wont be like this
keep the roamnce but dont let it overpower the whole game
