Besides if you take a look at the upcoming releases for games this year people should note that there actually are some RPGS with "dating sims" elements that are getting released out here. LIke Record of Agarest War (and please do check out the mousepad that comes with the special edition) and Sakura Taisen. There is a market for these types of games out here and game publishers are starting to realize that.
Look we all love games. If someone wants to spend a majority of their gaming time in insane speed runs more power to them. That's awesome. But if someone wants to enjoy a little side story to continue with the characters we adore then that's awesome too.

Romance bit is great but I can't imagine playing a game soley base on making your character fall in love with a another character or spending lovey dovey time with your character's love interest. I'd still buy it but that's not the point...I just can't imagine how they make a game out of just spending quality time. It'll be a great story to be uncovered but dragonage isn't just about getting it on. The love story be far more interesting if it's intertwined with a good story.
Also, I don't consider the love story in da as just a small side plot, it's a hook and it snags a lot of people in and I love it. I go gaga over Alistair but only because he fuels the non-exsitence perfect man ideals/imagination and I'm under no illusion and think it's a dating sim, it's just a fantastic, lovely story.
I do find it a bit creepy when people speak like they're actually the one dating the character using line like "my" love interest. Or as if the character care for them and not the character they play. Or they don't want to try and see what the other love plots are like because they consider it cheating and scared of upseting their real love interest, that I find most creepy of all.

Yep, and they tend to be Tali fans who speak like this...they're bringing a great character down.
So I'm not suprise some people tend to make fun of people who ask for more depth to the romance after encoutering these crazed fans. One Tali fan didn't want to complete the romance scene because for some illogical reason in his head, he thinks she would get really, really sick and die. He cared too much to risk making her ill even though it was obvious nothing bad would happen...

I didn't think it was possible, or indeed plausible either. But it does happen.
Like someone drooling over a naughty calender in their back shed. Hell the magazine industry of women men will never really touch is massive. Plenty of people out there develop real obsessions with those magazines.
The human mind is a bizarre thing, it can be iron willed, or fragile as anything. It can be tricked into believe a fake character is a real one, the mind can't tell the difference between pixels / paint, only the person can consciously acknowledge they're not real.

There's a fine line there, somewhere.

Don't get it, nothing really off the wall or disturbing with those. (Yes I'm aware you said these are tame, but I'm guessing you posted them for supporting the argument). First one is actually pretty damn well made, second one looks like a simple photoshop of a screenshot though.
What argument? I simply stated that I find it repulsive and creepy to obsess over romances with fictional alien critters. It's akin to bestiality and not much different from lusting after a talking chimp. If you're good with it that's fine. There's nothing to discuss and have a nice day.

Man you must really hate star treck.

back to the main topic I think much of this problem could of been resolved in one or two lines of dialogue in awakening where someone asks what you were up to before you became sent or asked you you were attached
A couple of answers like I was looking foe someone or I was doing this and that with so and so would giving a much greater feeling of connection at little effort.

Oooo...you're a xenophobe! I bet you you supported Cerebus in ME. Sentient peoples, whether human or not, are sentient peoples. Should we ever encounter sentient alien life forms, having a relationship with them would not be "beastiality".

That argument several of us have had this entire thread, I thought you were chiming in with "evidence" so I apologize. Not sure why you view things the way you do on this subject especially when discussing a video game but not really much I can say there.

People don´t want a dating sim. We just want interesting and well-written romace plots.
You got them. Asking for more moar MOAR is bordering on ridiculous. And yes the Talimancers are all crazy.
Assuming The Warden will return as assuming too much. Far, far too much.

I kind of agree it was implemented well and was as involved in the overall plot to the right degree. But if there are more expansions or in the very slim chance of a direct sequel I would like to have some mention of the previous occurrences at least in the manner I mentioned before.

Wow! I didn't realize that I'm unreasonably fearful of fictional and/or non-existent aliens. Thanks for setting me straight.

Let us suppose for a moment that you met a sentient dog. He walks on his hind legs and has a mellow and soulful speaking voice. I have to assume that you would characterize him as a "sentient being", right? There are some obvious benefits in that his physical apparatus is more compatible with a human female than the tentacle some alien lifeform is likely to have. Heck, there are woman in existence at this very moment that aren't particularly hung up on that whole 'sentient' thing. Since we're now dealing with a 'sentient being' it's no longer bestiality, right?
I'm inclined to let this absurd discussion die off at this point. After all, I'm not some creepy fetishist that fantasizes about romance and sex with fictional creatures, alien or terrestrial. Not to mention that I've let myself get baited into dragging this thread off the rails in such a deplorable fashion. I apologize to the OP and I'll bail out of here now.

Besides, I don't see any major difference between Tali fans and Alistair fans either. Both are well written and interesting characters with very good voice acting, that generated a lot of response from players. The Tali support group is there for a reason too. Tali was not romanceable in ME1, and a lot of people wrote on the forum that they wished she had been. Bioware listened to this and made her a romance in ME2. This proved that Bioware did listen to fans, so naturally these people want to make sure Bioware understands they liked it and want it continued in ME3.
It is part of human creativity and empathy to be able to imbue things with the illusion of thoughts and life. My sons talks to his teddy bear all the time. On one level he knows it's not alive, but emotionally it is still alive to him on another level. It's perfectly harmless and not a mental disorder. Those of us who like computer game characters really fall into the same category, even if only a small few feel as intensely about it as my son does about his teddy bear.
I think that as long as I play the same character in the same game setting, it hurts my immersion if there is no continuity in sequels. Not giving a decent explanation that makes sense in game, why the romantic interest in the original game is suddenly absent in a sequel can be just as bad as having the wrong person on the throne in the sequel, or missing a sword.
I can understand that others don't care about it, but I do. Besides, why should it matter if a make belief Kingdom is run by a non-existant Queen or King? Why should it matter if non-existant pieces of armor and equipment gets imported into a sequel. It's not real. You can't just single out wanting a romantic interest continued in the sequel as creepy, and think it's perfectly reasonable to care about stats, items or the political situation in Fereldan.
This doesn't mean that I think it's reasonable to demand that the player must get a chance for a happy end with Morrigan or whatever. If she is gone, she is gone. The game should not ignore the issue though.

I don't even bother with the Liara/Garrus obsessors. They irritate me. I don't even go on the ME board anymore. Too much creepy fanart.
I do understand why you feel this way about LIs, but having a romance isn't to fill the void of your own non-existent romantic life, nor is it solely made for the sexually repressed gaming nerds. Love is a big part of life, and sometimes it's nice to see two people fall for eachother, especially from a female perspective. Granted, you don't want sappy Alistair talk 24/7 in every game you play, but it is nice to see a sentimental side to a character. It reveals more about them and lets you into their life even more, which adds to the story, even more.
To echo this from a male perspective; I agree completely, I have always loved BioWare games since BG for their romantic sub plots and a good romance option can really enrich the immersion of the game.
Of course you will always have the dissidents and fanatics, but aslong as the romance sub plots stay optional their continuity through installments of the series can only strengthen the overall experience.

Insofar as continuity for romances goes, if it makes sense to the project we'll happily include it. I don't think we would ever base a project (like a sequel or an expansion) around continuing romance plots, however.
