Trying to zero in on  his personality, specifically. He's an adrenaline junkie. I'm going with the colonist/sole suvivor backgrounds. After the Alliance picked him up on Mindoir he was handed over to Cerberus, implanted and trained in biotics, then enrolled in the Alliance military. Basically, (as far as he knows/ME1 is concerned) he is the only human Vanguard. A handful of others were trained (individually, no one knows the others identity), but he was the only one to survive on Akuze (they were dropped in with the regular Marines as part of their final stress test). Since he was the only one that "passed" the experiment was ultimately considered a failure.

I'm just trying to decide if I should play him as an off-the-wall Renegade totally warped from his past or a Paragon that put his past behind him and is more or less a model soldier.

Usually, whenever I come up with a background for my character, I think I'm going to roleplay it one way and end up doing something completely different. For instance, my most Renegade character in ME1 ended up doing what is arguably the most Paragon action of the game. To this day I don't know why, but it felt right for the character.

From how you describe your character, I can't imagine him being a model soldier, but I can see him being incredibly efficient. But that goes out the window if you pair that with off-the-wall Renegade -- in my mind, it doesn't matter what background you pick for such a character, there's a bit of mental instability to start with. :P

I found being a true Renegade in ME1 a little difficult because I think it requires you be a little bit racist to truly go all out with it. But having your colony destroyed by Batarians might instill anyone with a bit of distrust against aliens.

You're absolutely right. The problem I seem to be having is trying to figure out how he'd react at certain situations in the game. Like... when Jenkins dies, ha.

I definitely find it easier to play characters that would naturally play Paragon and do investigates during dialog 'n stuff like that.

Be pragmatic. Stopping in a hostile zone to ponder the death of Jenkins isn't the best time, soldier! Move out! :P
