If you think about posting your idea here, bear the following points in mind:
1.) Try to stick as much as possible to the original universe. This means you shall not just "invent" a new menace threatening the whole universe, or create dozens of new species just because you feel it would be cool.
2.) Do not rewrite the history, aka somehow counteracting the original Trilogy's story. Everything should stay canon.
3.) No, this does not make you part of EA, their Bioware studios or their writing staff. You're a helpful forumite giving his/her ideas out for free. Period
Having that stated, I feel happy to just begin with the first attempt.
What I always thought would fit into the Mass Effect trilogy occured to me when I started playing Dragon Age: Origins. I really liked the origin-system and thought that could be a great basis for a Mass Effect game too!
How could one implement such origins into the Mass Effect Universe, I mean other than just bluntly implement it right away. What came to my mind is story related. Throughout the current state of the game series, we had loads of possibilities to romance people. Shaira, Ashley, Liara, Jack, Miranda and many more. Why this list is incomplete you might think right now, ... totally lacking the male romance-options and Tali!? For one simple reason. Most people's male Shepard is most probably doing a good Kirk out there in the Universe, giving his love everyone who wants it for free, as most friendly male would do I am certain. But what has yet failed to emerge are the direct consequences. Did none of those matings ever achieve for what their natural purpose is for? Especially the Asari should have a pregnancy probability of almost hundred percent, given the fact that it does only require a partner and not his daddy-juices.
What you probably think of and what I am going to say should pretty much match up since these laste sentences, yeah. Why is there no Shepard-Junior!?
And here we have it. At least five different possibilities to create origins from, each opening a unique story one can work out:
-The mystical baby out of a rather casual encounter with Shaira, who's reason to birth it may lie in ancient beliefs ...
-The offspring of a love fated to fall apart, the (maybe) last the universe will ever see from its saviour and its struggle to fit into those giant footsteps ...
- Love is eternal, and eternity last long if you happen to live a thousand years. A young Asari, standing in between two worlds. The child of Pureblood, or the legacy of a hero ...
- An unwanted child with an unusual mother. Living a pirates live aboard the stars, surrounded by death madness and the tingling sensation of the unknown. Who was the father and why does mother act so strangely unstrange when facing such questions? ...
- You are the child of woman who made it, though at what price? The perfect mother, with the perfect home and a seemingly perfect past. But nothing is perfect, for long that is ...
- The Hero is dead, long live the Hero. You live in a sterile laboratory. You don't remember anything, but this for all you're life. Who are you? Why are you here? What do they want? And more importantely, what will happen? ...
This was just some apéritif to think about what one could do given the already set story elements. Of course I don't know what the furture and ME 3 will offer, but creating a little story around the Legacy of the most probably most famous, respected or hated Human in the whole Galaxy really gives a great oppotunity to begin with. And with such many possibilities it could even start, there's lots of room for a great story, even if it would be just one game.
As for the Gameplay, nothing other than already implemented in the Mass Effect series is there to add, at least as far as I can imagine. This would again once more be more of a storywise idea.
Stay tuned for more.
