Does overload (after rank 3) overheat all weapons everytime it hits or is it just a chance to overheat weapons? Also does it do this to collector weapons also?

IMO...The ONLY time I use overload is when Im attacking Mechs, Geth, or other synthetics...And no, Collectors arent considered "synthetics" hence why it doesnt damage them. Im not sure that it increases the "chance" for overheating weapons but Im pretty certain that rank 4 increases the duration in which they are overheated.

I think it overheats them every time. And it does overheat collector weapons too, which makes sense because collectors drop thermal clips.

Don't forget about it blowing up pyros and flamethrower enemies!! Always a toasty surprise, especially if you catch them in a group of friends.

So Overload and Disruptor Ammo do in fact overload weapons held by Organic enemies? Because the description only says, 'Synthetic Weapon Overheat' on the 360 version. At least, as far as I can remember. I'm working on other games at the moment.

Yes. I guess disruptor ammo works much like cryo, in that heavy pistols and snipers have a very high chance of overheating the enemy weapon, rapid fire weapons less so. And the enemies can actually fire at you while their weapon is overheated, but they just fire one or two shots every few seconds until the 6 seconds is done.

They only overheat after defenses are down.

you sure???
that would explain to me alot of why I dont see them often poping sinks when they got nearly full shields....

Yeah, I believe they only overheat once the enemy's defenses have been removed, which makes that function largely useless in most fights. I only ever use Overload against shields, synthetic enemies, and blowing up Blood Pack Pyros. In case people didn't know, for some reason, using Overload on flamethrower-wielding enemies makes them explode and die instantly. (Well, logically I know why it works, but it's still unusual.)

Has anyone tested to see if the weapon overheat is in fact only done when defenses are down?

So I have tried some testing but playing on the 360, its a little difficult and I cant get a clear result. Anyone on PC that could test this out?

I can't imagine why weapons would overheat with shields on, since the shields absorb the disruptor ammo damage. And just for game balance, armor and barriers work the same way.

Just a quick clarification: defenses need to be down for the pyro explosion to take effect.

It has been my experience that only when defenses are down are weapons effected, this includes regular slug throwers and pryos. I just ran through Zaeed's mission so have some recent experience with shielded opponents and overload. Once overloaded they will not shoot until the reload a heat sink.
One of the reasons I like taking Kasumi and Miranda with my adepts/Vanguards is the double overload on an area of enemies, first usually kills shields second kills weapons, then I can charge or drop biotics on them.
