Hey fellas(I love that word^^) I could need some help from you.I'm abou to start a few playthroughs to try out every build in the game and I hope you can help me decide on the backgrounds of my characters.What I want you to do is to tell me which in your mind would be the best background and origin for eacht build and maybe also gender(but only judge from a rp perspective not gameplay wise)
so here it goes:

2h warrior:
s&s warrior tank:

pure caster dps mage(taking bloodmage/spirit healer):
arcane warrior(mainly combat orientated wearing heavy armor):

dw rogue:
archer rogue:

2h Warrior - Human Noble

S&S Warrior Tank - Dwarf Noble

Pure Caster DPS Mage - Elf Mage

DW Rogue - City Elf (or Dwarf Commoner)

Archer Rogue - Dalish Elf

good idea actually and I'd have every origin covered.which gender would you recommend?

just what I'm thinking.any ideas how to play each origin?what I mean is I LOVE to roleplay and love to play the game out of my characters view so I need a background for each

Honestly, that's the sort of thing that gets decided by your origin. How you play it out, what decision you make during the origin, is up to you. There's no right or wrong way to play it, so have fun.

right now I have my characters like this



dw warrior:male human noble

2h warrior:male human noble (sucks there's no barbarian origin]

s&s warrior:male dwarfen noble

pure caster dps mage:male human mage

arcane warrior:male human mage (play him like a tevinter mage)

dw rogue:female human noble

archer rogue:female dalish elf



what do you think about that?

Aw, no dwarf commoner? It's my favorite origin. ;P

Otherwise, looks fine. I'm guessing you're choosing for RP purposes, because Dwarf Commoner is the min/maxer's choice for DW Warrior, due to both the racial bonuses and the starting talent is already Dual Weapon. Elf Mage also gets a racial bonus to magic and willpower, making them the min/maxer's choice for pure caster. I also see three different Human Nobles, which is fine, but may make certain parts of the game somewhat monotonous.

yes I'm choosing for RP reasons since the gameplay reasons are almost non existant and yes I'm using 3 human nobles but one just as an replacement for a missing barbarian origin
and@mousestalker I already played a city elf I know the origin

I find Dwarf Commoner to be the most compelling in the game, but to each his own. ;P Even totally disregarding min/maxing, I still found it to be incredibly fun to play all the way through the game. To be honest, the Human Noble is great the first time, but it didn't have much replay value for me.

My current char is a Dwarf Commoner 2hander Templar.

I also like the dwarf commoner origin infact my very first playthrough was a 2h dwarfen commoner . right now I prefer the dwarfen noble origin but I might play a dw dwarfen commoner in the future
and the only reason I have 3 human nobles is because it's the only human origin

I changed my mind now on one thing my dw rogue will now be a female city elf.I actually only played a human noble female for the queen ending but I decided to screw that it wasn't that impressive so now I'll play my first city elf.I'm still thinking about my weapons which dagger would be better in the off-hand the thorn of the dead gods(t6 version) or fang(t7 version)?

my favorite origin is dwarf noble, i have done all origins except for dwarf commoner, but i deff plan on it. In my opionion dwarfs are the most interesting race in this game.

I will definately use rose's thorn in my main hand and I wanna know how good is fang ?
and since there are a lot of dwarf fans here don't you hate it aswell that there are some really cool tatoos in the game that you can't use like the one from the thief in dust town,the legion of the dead tatoo or sigruns?

And yes, I have a very love/hate relationship with character creation, including beards that can only be obtained by using a certain preset, tattoos you see in game but cannot use, etc.

Why are both your mages human males? Try a female elf just for some variation. It will change some dialogue, such as with Cullen, and it's fun to use mage intimidation on people who insult you for being an elf.

Human noble I wouldn't do more than two of, one male and one female. The female one should marry alistair.

I highly recommend both dwarf origins.

ok after reading all your posts I'm thinking about making some changes this is what I came up with:
dw warrior:male human noble->stays like this
2h warrior:male human noble->stays like this(only reason I'm using 2 human nobles is because it's the only human origin )
s&s warrior:male dwarfen noble-> stays like this
pure caster dps mage:male human mage->changed to female elven mage
arcane warrior:male human mage-> stays like this but I'll start this one over
dw rogue:female human noble->changed to female city elf
archer rogue:female dalish elf-> changed to male dalish elf (don't want to play 3 female elves and this way I have a female and a male rogue)
