5% of geth programs is not necessarily 5% of all geth platforms or ships. If the true geth were that much more powerful than the heretics they'd have never needed to rely on Legion to go after the Heretic station. They could have just attacked it in a conventional battle and destroyed it. It is quite possible that the heretics, despite being a minority of programs, have a disproportionately large military. Consider that the 'true' geth are busy rebuilding quarian worlds and building their dyson sphere. This would occupy the majority of their platforms and ships. The leftovers would be busy harvesting resources with whatever is left acting as the military. If you blow up the heretics you probably wipe out most of the collective geth military might.

Well, the Geth didn't attack the heretic station so far because they needed Legion find out more by going to the Reaper first, in order to understand the Virus or its concept and so on. Attacking and destroying it might not solve anything, they could transfer the Virus...or...other stuff. They will won't attack it because Legion requests Shepard's assistance once it's part of the crew. It's a gameplay thing too.

I can see that the current way things are makes sense. The only problem is: Why did they send ONE platform only? They are the main Geth faction with...I dare to say infinite resources. Sure they work on their sphere but they still have enough resources to build more than just one advanced mobile platform. They could build a whole squad of these with ease.

Legion nearly failed twice or more than twice. Hence the sniper shot on Eden Prime and the hit on the Reaper. The Geth would've turned into heretics if Shepard didn't save Legion. In other words why send one platform for a mission like this.

"Heavy risk...but the priiiize" ? Maybe the Geth thought they get an achievement. If they changed it a bit...then it would be fine. Let's say Legion was not the only but one of several advanced platforms spread all over the galaxy. Then I'd buy it.

Or maybe it was a..."field test" ? In theory they could send more platforms like this if one fails and they only sent one because it's more..."stealthy" and they can also see how capable the platform is.

You could probably counter this threat with either the Rakni if you saved the queen in ME 1 or the Krogan if you save the genophage research from Mordan's loyalty quest.

I'd be interested if you rewrite the Heretics to be Geth, cure the genophage and saved the Rakni Queen whether you could send these three swarms against the Reapers. I have one scenario set up like this just in case. Hopefully it won't go all pear shaped and bite me.

I wonder if I will have to put a bullet into Legion's head if I do indeed get the opportunity to destroy the geth in ME3. Probably, a damn shame I can't reprogram just him.

Again, besides for the depriving yourself of content point, why?

I'm debating whether or not to sell Legion for roleplaying reasons. As ReconTeam points out it is depriving yourself on content. My fear is that in ME3 if you sold Legion you'll just miss out on dialog and quests. I'm not afraid of the bad PLOT consequences like the geth all being Reaper worshipers, what I'm afraid of is that I'll be punished by being excluded from content.

Do you have multiple characters?  If so then you don't have to worry about missing anything in ME3.

That's the beauty of this game, it encourages you to replay it again and make different choices.

I had never in my 14 playthru decided about Legion based on points and money. The decision based on what type of Shepard I actually play. For example, what is his/her allegiance, pro-Cerb, pro-Alliance, Rouge etc, main morality, how much he knows about the Geth (i.e. how much he told about it with Tali), how he thinks about the Quarian's action (in one playthru he was really pissed off how they handled the Geth, and blamed the Quarians for the Geth actions in ME1), etc.

Points and money can be obtained by other means, for me it is more important that these kind of decisions fit into the scheme I create for an actual playthru.

I totally agree with JedTed, with my 14 ME3 import ready savegames I don't fear that I miss something in ME3.

I'd hate to be robbed of content for roleplaying. If I played ME2 then no matter what choices I made I should see the effects in the next game. The only reason I should be excluded from something should be because I didn't import a Shepard.

Legion adresses this in conversation. They could very easily have sent a squad or an entire army, but decided not to because that would be seen as hostile action. Basically if Sheppard (or anyone) encountered a single Geth platform he might try talking, if he encountered a squad he'd shoot first and ask questions never.

It worked too, because Shep and team always remark on the unusualness of seeing a single Geth and most people then opt to reativate and try talking.

I suppose that makes sense, thanks for referring to his dialog. I finished a third playthrough today but I didn't pay much attention to Legion's dialog. And I can't remember the rest well. It's still a risk but if they wanna send single platforms all the time (if the previous platform fails) then it's their business.

Heh, you know....they could still send a squad of these advanced platforms. The rest simply stays on the Geth ship (Legion arrived with one) while they send one or two out. Should work, besides reinforcements (or replacements) would be there in no time. This reminds me of a certain plot part where all board the shuttle but only the usual three actually do a mission while the rest is sitting around apparently.
