Too many redundant characters. 5 or less squadmates would be much better. More dialogue, deeper backstory, more talents. While I liked all (except Tali) characters in ME2, most of them rarely left the Normandy once recruited.

I would like to see the survivors return. However most of them cannot be playable. If Bioware give you a full squad you cannot meet new characters. Meeting and learning about new characters was great. I liked all the characters in ME2 and 1. The ones least explored in 1 were back in 2 and while they didn't have as much dialogue as the other characters the total knowledge, well it adds up. But my point is, you need new characters for the sake of meeting new people, as people make the story. Having 3 characters for each role would be utterly superfluous. Considering we can kill half the team off and survive, for us to make a whole team in the 3rd game, new players need to be recruitable. On top of that, they cannot have too much squad bloat. It'd turn interacting with characters into a chore.
I'd suspect that if there's any characters who are very hard to kill without failing to survive the game, they'd be the givens for the next game but even that isn't a given. It's possible they'd replace your whole squad. But I think most people are very attatched to tali and garrus now.
I do hope most characters get a compelling reason to leave the crew, like Wrex where dammit, I'm glad he's not with me, he's living his dream again. At the end of the day, while fanservice requests PLAY THEM ALL, I think the game would suffer, if the devs don't marginalise most of the old squad. Where's the discovery and progress otherwise?
And I liked every character, from Jacob who's a bit dull (I mean he's a good, typical soldier who's joined cereberus because he thinks he can do the most good, that's it, it's clear even before the first mission ends). To mordin and his regret over his rationality versus emotion ethical struggle over his work on krogan. But I want to mee new characters, and while I'd to at least work with my team (they all lived) I don't have to have them in my squad.

I want the entire team back. I enjoyed all of them and they should be back. I may not have used all of them, but that's not the point. I like this team; it doesn't need to be broken up again.
And the only character I didn't like, I left to die back on Virmire (It was an easy choice).

I would like all the LI's back, as a minimum, and all the squaddies, as a premium.

I do not see any reason for them not to bring them all back. Shepard spends all of ME2 recruiting "The best of the best", it would make ZERO sense for Shepard not to have them in the final chapter of the game. What I would like to see is character specific missions/dialogue based on who you bring forward with you into ME3. Mass Effect 2 played more like the opening of a good story. The protagonist puts together the pieces they will need to "save the galaxy".
I personally can not see any reason for them to not all come back in a squad member capacity.
As far as the characters from ME1... I believe they ALL will be non-squad mission oriented characters that will be integral to the final plot. With LotSB we see the hints of that at least.

I don't because it punishes those who lost Squad members and I don't think the default start for a ME3 Sheperd will have everyone surviving the Suicide Mission. If that was the case than it would make the whole Suicide Mission redundant. That and I want new Squad members for ME3.
Bioware took out Ashley from my crew/squad. I want all ME2 players to feel the same pain that my Sheperd has felt.

Not really. Casey Hudson has stated they'll all be returning, and delegating everyone to cameos would cost more than having them as full-fledged squadmates since VAs are paid by project, not hours.smecky-kitteh wrote...
it's almost impossible for all of them to return as squad mates but what the hell. *subscribed*
I think I'll go add that to the OP now.
This has probably already been said, but even though VAs are paid by project and not hours, I guarentee you that VAs, regardless of how famous, are paid far less for a cameo role than a squadmate role. They would just tell them that they'd only have a few lines before the contract is written up.

For those squadmates who died there will be new replacements, i really hope that those character are as well written as your ME 2 squadmates.

I want the whole crew back. I worked like crazy to save them all in most of my playthroughs, I want them all back - it would be absolutely awesome. I 100% support this and I'm hoping it will happen. It just makes sense. ME2's story was about the team, that's what Bioware usually says anyways. So if the story is about the team, then it only makes sense that you take that team with you into ME3 to defeat the Reapers. You're not gonna have time to make up another team in ME3, there's a lot of other stuff that needs to get settled. C'mon Bioware, bring back my team.

Agreed.
I'm just attached to all of them too much.

What if certain members died, they have replacements.
Tali dies, we have Kal Regger
Grunt dies, we have Wrex
And so on and so fourth

I think it would be pretty ridiculous to make ME3 about recruiting people. We already did that in ME2. I'm not about to go on another loyalty mission romp, ok?
And for all those saying that half the fun is learning about new characters, that's a poor argument. I would prefer a deeper characterization of the ME2 squad than recruiting new kids at the last minute to defeat the Reapers.
