Upon re-installing the toolset, I somehow created for myself a sound problem.

I have an NPC named Jenna the Archivist, who gives several quests and so has a rather long dialogue. I've successfully generated VO and FX, but in the module itself, her voice never appears. All of my dialogues now have the same problem, though they were working in the original install  (the toolset was re-installed for an unrelated problem and the
dialogue(s) re-built from scratch, so it's not part of my original
issue.)

But here's the weird part: if I preview the line in the toolset, I can hear her voice just fine, so I know it's recording (and I've ensured all her .WAV files are in the directories). If I run her dialogue from a stage in the module, her lips move (FaceFX), but there's no sound, even though I can hear the sounds of another NPC walking about.  If I run her dialogue with no stage, she just stares blankly and the dialogue lines appear on the screen as if there's no VoiceFX at all.

Is it possible that there's a switch I've inadvertently hit that would turn off voices? If not, has anyone run across a similar situation?

OK, here's the solution; surely I can't be the only person who will make this error:

The reinstall was not the issue. However, when I re-built the characters, conversations, etc., I used the same names I had in the previous module WHICH WAS STILL INSTALLED. Dragon Age assigns the override order on startup, and it was giving the old module priority over the new one. Therefore, the character Jenna the Archivist was not calling the Jenna conversation from this module; she was calling conversation from the old one, which did not match. I changed the conversation names and bingo! It works like a charm (the reason the stage "worked" was that there were no stages in the old
module.)

Of course, this problem has the potential of occurring in ANY two installed modules, and you'll likely never know why a conversation doesn't work because you won't be able to see the tags unless you're in the toolset.

So remember kids:
1. Create tags unlikely to be duplicated in other modules.
2. If something doesn't seem to work, try giving it a new name and tag. This has solved problems more than once for me.
3. Get that old crap off your machine ;)
