Sounds intersting, I like the idea of DLC filling in the gap between ME 2 and ME 3 :D. I can assume the character related DLC is a reference to the rumoured Liara DLC as well. Also, Hammerhead boss fights, hell yeah!

Edit: If you want to avoid all spoilers in regards to Overlord (e.g, what the story is about), skip to 1: 30 in.

Really ?? Who here tried to mine the entire galaxy?? Poor Casey... still in denial about how bad an idea the planet scanning mini-game really was.

Great find, OP. I'll wait on the Overlord dlc, but the idea of bridging dlc with ME1 characters (Liara and Virmire survivor hopefully) is what gets my attention.

So, I'm crossing my fingers for good stuff in the future.

I like that Casey sounds like he is all too familiar with some of the biggest criticisms for ME2. Planetary exploration - here we comeeeee

I did the Omega Nebula, and the Nebula that Illium is in. Got all of those planets down to depleted, afterwards I contemplated suicide. I'm never starting a new ME2 game because I'm never mining again. I got a new PC but there's no way in hell I'm paying another $50 just to take out mining.

Honestly, I think that was one of the worst decisions I've ever made.

It seems like nice video. It seems that they try to learn from us. Of course "we" have so many voices here than hard to know who to listen. *grins* Of couse there is stuff what most of us agree. Then there are also stuff what are more like our own personal liking.

mm.. Did he thinked that ME2 was better than ME1? I would say, they are both equal good, just little different ways.

Yeah, the mining wasn't so fun to do.

Neat find indeed.

Filling the gap between the two games is awesome, but then I don't think they'll have a huge impact story wise. I'm pretty skeptical since the "y halo thar, standalone games, we need to attract new folk$$$$$$, sorry die hard fans" statement, but I hope I'll be positively disappointed.

Casey Hudson said...

You got your 12 characters, so now you have your full lineup...

...future downloadable packs... not just the ongoing story between Mass Effect 2 and 3... developing some of the characters that you may be familiar with in the Mass Effect universe...

I hope this means what I always suspected - Mass Effect 2 was basically a giant recruiting mission, setting up to deal almost entirely with the main plot in Mass Effect 3.

And to extrapolate further, it seems that Kaidan, Ashley and Liara will make a return - even as a temporary squadmate in Mass Effect 2 for a mission or two - to help bridge the story gap between 2 and 3.

Too optimistic? Maybe. But it falls in line with the direction Casey is implying.

Hammerhead was generally well received...

...Actual platforming with your vehicle...

...Mako missions in the first game... people did like the idea of these bigger worlds... creatures... caves and things to explore

Hammerhead exploration? Sounds good to me, as long as there's actual things to explore. The Hammerhead is better suited than the Mako for exploration - no more climbing up impossibly steep terrain (those Mako tires have a lot of tread...).

Casey Hudson said...

...the mining game... first of all, we put more emphasis on it than we needed to... because it was kind of important to your progression...

...there are people who literally tried to mine the entire galaxy, and we didn't expect that, quite frankly.

I really hope there are only a few people who tried to mine the entire galaxy.

With all the resources from import bonuses, missions, side missions, and DLC missions, planet-scanning for minerals is definitely not important to my character's progression. So while I don't like the timesink, I do like that it's optional.

It sounds like Casey is taking the positives of ME1/ME2 (Hammerhead controls from ME2, larger populated worlds from ME1) and combining them, using the DLC almost as a testing lab for these ideas while they're working on Mass Effect 3.

It seems that he's taking the most positive aspects found in ME1 and ME2 and further expanding on them. So yes, the stuff on which most of us would agree is definitely being taken into consideration.

He did say that ME2 was an improvement over ME1, though. Sure, there are some things (like planet-scanning) we won't approve with, but the general gameplay experience has improved.

Wow, we have a lot of good news then...I like that Bioware listened players' criticism in order to improve their game!

I'm starting to feel guilty for bagging ME2. I'll admit that my disappointment tied in directly with my first complete play-through, which left me wishing that there was more to see/discover.

I wasn't disappointed by the Firewalker DLC at all - it fueled that spark of imagination that I got from playing ME1. I'd love to 'uncover' more about the Protheans in future DLC, or other extinct races for that matter.

Essentially, I'm really pleased that BioWare are exploring the myriad possibilities that DLC can bring. Assuming the DLC offerings continue up until ME3 is released, it'll feel like a very short wait. :)

The best way to experiment on a person is to make them think they aren't in the experiment.  More natural responses.

There's alot of encouraging things there with the direction that ME is going, both DLC and ME3. As much as I love ME2 and enjoy playing it, getting back some of the emphasis on exploration that ME1 had will be very welcome. Guess we'll see how it all plays out.

There were people here who said they did that, or things close to it. And I don't see how he's denying anything here, he's pretty much saying it will be replaced with something else in future instalments, that there was too much emphasis on it in ME2 and that they didn't mean for people to spend hours with it.

Well, if you pay for the DLC that they offer, sure.

:P

It's a good place to try new ideas before mass producing another $50 game.

That was an awesome hint for ME1 Li fans . . . but also can't wait for upcoming Overlord Dlc, that sounds pretty awesome, as well! Here's to hope for all squad mates in ME3, wouldn't that be awesome?
