Sten is easy. He is a very focussed individual who is insecure in speaking your language. Keep your conversation with him straight forward and mission oriented. Don't back down when speaking with him, he respects confidence and strength.

Funny you mentioned alistair, hes the one I have most trouble keeping happy usually lol. The only ones I've ever had leave are him and wynne though. Lelianna disapproves sometimes but she always sticks around.

I have had nobody leave in my games, though I was tempted to bolt a few times.

Note: When romancing two seperate members of the party, make certain they do not know.

I had Zevran betray me in my last runthrough. Treated him fairly poorly. Slaughtered the Dalish, and then asked him of his opinions on the Dalish back at the camp. He was not a happy bunny. Then the meeting with Taliesin..well...to be expected.

But...Alistair can leave the party? :o

If you side with Logain at the Landsmeet.

I broke up with zevran (well rejected him anyway), then killed the dalish, then asked him his opinion of them, he still stuck with me vs taliesin lol

Zevran is my favorite. I am aware that he can betray at the Taliesin meetup, but have not experienced it.

On a partially related note, you do know that you get a point of approval every time you sleep with him?

I've never had him turn on me either, however if he refuses to fight you can cut his head off later at camp for giggles. Just say "I can't accept that." or something to that effect

Killing the Dalish may be as bad as swooping; uncertain....

Ah, right. I thought you meant Alistair could leave in another circumstance. (Alistair leaving happened on my first playthrough...)

Is the problem romancing Zevran or whether he has his own companion quest?

Romancing Zevran is easy. Just pick up on any piece of dialogue that is suggestive. Though to get him to actually fall in love is something else. If you've already had the 'massage', and gotten over his awkwardness and 'hopped in the sack' again, then I think that's pretty much it. HAve you received a present from him?

If it's a companion quest, then no, there isn't one. Not unless you count the encounter with Taliesin, but the codex will not have that as a companion quest. It's also that point whether he betrays you or not.

Just get his approval meter into the 30's and he'll side with you instead.

I've never had him betray me, but then again, most of my Wardens, male or female, seem to end up with him, whether I intended them for others or not.  I actually had to battle my Lady Aeducan's natural urge to flirt with him so she'd end up with Alistair   She ended up friend-zoning Zev, but it nearly killed her.

Zev is very useful.

1) He can create poisons.

2) He can dual wield.

3) He can stealth.

4) He can double as an effective archer (high dex and cunning works for him, as well as Leliana).

5) He is far more loyal than he gets credit for.

6) He is amusing... his stories are hilarious. Compare Zev to say, Sten... who has no personality, isn't worth much in a fight, and is hard to get on his good side unless you stumble across gifts.

Compared to Leliana, the only difference is that she can open chests. Cancel out that aspect, and he's better.

I had Zevran betray me, but his affection level had been pretty high so I was really surprised. I had learned the assassination skill from him, given him the Antivan boots and the Dalish gloves, etc. Right before I left camp to go to Denerim (where the assassin met us) I spoke to him and asked about the Dalish, somehow I lost 10 approval points, but then I gave him a medium gold bar so I didn't worry about it. Now he's dead! Really, really sucks.
