Saving the hostages is always the right thing to do in Bring Down the Sky. Only from a metagaming perspective would you kill Balak. You do not know what would become of Balak after that so it would not be safe to assume anything.

Do you come from Backwards Land or something?

Even in context, it sounds suspiciously like what I just said. But arguing on the internet and all that, I just hope you'll be as honest about your ideology in any psych evaluations you might have to take. ;)

I ended up killing Balak. The death of those 3 people is sad, but I am not the one who killed them - that was Balak. I don't think for a second that Balak is suddenly going to stop terrorizing humans just because of what happened in Bring Down the Sky - his hatred of humans is deeply entrenched. It's also possible that Shepard letting him go will inspire him to continue terrorizing as he was let off free and easy - giving him the impression that he can continue doing this with little danger. There is no right or wrong answer to the question of what to do with Balak though.

It was pretty similar to what you said, I was just clarifying what I meant.

It was paragon to save mealons (sp, w/e) data on curing the genophage, "incase they ever needed it." Why couldnt it be paragon to save the Collectors base, "incase we ever needed it."

SImple, because the Research was to be kept by Mordin, me or someone equally trustworthy.

IN the Collector base, we weren't given the choice to keep, nor did we had the resources to study it, it had to be given to Cerberus who god knows what would do with it.

If we had the option, resources to keep the base to study it, I assure you 99% of players would keep it.

I would have loved to have had the option of.

Not sending anything to TIM.

Telling EDI to begin scans and mining the base for info.

Lastly, to not tell TIM, the exact coordiniates of how to get through the relay, so I would study it myself, and those I deem reliable.

Keeping the data just in case, is fine, because we kept it.
Keeping the base just in case, is not fine, beacuse we aren't the ones who are going to keep it.

Re: metagaming Bring Down the Sky, you don't know Balak is going to get away but you don't know the hostages will die if you kill Balak either. You could have saved the hostages and then caught up with Balak, but you also could have shot the detonator out of his hand. It's still the same choice.

I guess choosing between saving the workers and killing Vido is metagaming. I only expected it to be impossible to do both because the setup was so similar to Bring Down the Sky. I can see saving the workers as the right thing to do and Vido escaping as an unforeseeable consequence.

Only sort of related, but Shepard taking moral offense at Zaeed setting the place on fire seemed odd, because I did the EXACT SAME THING on Mordin's loyalty mission. Someone at Bioware really liked that scene.

You also don't know that your going to be spaced by the collectors and thus any deal you make with Balak to make him leave will probably be voided by your "death." Balak probably only returned to destroying colonies after you died. I am pretty sure Balak would know you would come after his *** personally if he continued his ****.

I do hope some paragon decisions bite people in the butt. Kinda unrealistic to constantly reward naivety and excessive trust. Would be funny if by sparing Joram Talid he remains ungreatful and continues to sow mistrust against humans.

Yeah but remember, we did it, and it didn't cause any damage besides to those right in front, it didn't cause a chain reaction, that threaten.....the urdnot clan power reactor or something.

Shooting an isolated flamable tanker, is different than going wacko at the pipes that feed a gas or fuel facility. :P at least in my eyes.:police:

You shot one tank.

Zaeed set off an entire refinery..............the exact refinery I thought i was there to save.

If you were there to save that explosive crate rather than Mordin's apprentice than yeah it would have been the same.

I Believe Balak running around killing colonies is an paragon bite to the ass. Can't remember for sure, but it is the paragon option to let him go right? I wouldn't worry about it too much. I am sure Vido will continue killing people, and Joram will continue to being the typical politician.

.....Bioware should provide more damn information.

So many things you do, ar ein the spot, without any regard for tactical awareness, for an elite special operation team, Shepperd sure runs his team ina  very ackward fashion.

BTW, hopefully in ME3, they integrate more those squadmates you leave on the Normandy.

Like, if you take for example...Tali and Legion, tell Thane and Garrus to sneak in hours before you, set up sniping positions that could affect the outcome of the mission, or have Grunt and Jack create a distraction somewhere else by going nuts.

Maybe telling Kasumi and Samara to sneak in and disable security protocols, and/or disable IFF systems in nearby drones to create a distraction for insertion team.

Maybe even, have the option that if you screw up, you become bogged down, and you can ask for another team to come rescue you, but you gota hold your post until team B cuts through the back of the enemy to get to you.

I would really much like a bit more work on those that stay in the normandy, put the to work, something, not just sit back and zip tea.

Collector base, very good example of getting everyone to do something, very nice example come to think of it :P

Those are both DLC... so you'll hear about them while you click on the galactic news stand on hub worlds in ME3.

Meh Elnora is nothing. Whats one more murdering merc in a sea of murdering mercs. I was hoping for paragon decisions that backfire on a larger scale.

I am sure that Bioware will captialize on it considering how well everyone liked how the sucide mission was setup, maybe didn't like the results, but in general you get what I mean. What I want is to have 2 more squad mates with me. >.>

Two more people, and I could wreak some serious reaper **** up.

That hasn't had the chance to backfire yet and it probably won't. I guarantee you'll meet her in ME3 and she'll be repetent and she'll help you somehow.

Regarding Balak, if you let him go to save the hostages, you're gambling on your ability to catch him again. At the time he gives you the choice, I can see a cocky Shepard thinking that in spite of Balak's claims, he can still save the hostages and run after Balak. Just turns out cocky Shepard is wrong.

I'm sure Shepard would want to settle unfinished business with Balak after thwarting Saren's plans and eliminating the leftover geth, but, unfortunately for him, the Collectors blew up his ship and killed him. Flash forward two years, and you have a particularly lethal batarian terrorist on the loose.

Now, the lives of the hostages are a concern, but I think the greatest concern of them all was saving the lives of millions of people on Terra Nova. Before confronting Balak, Shepard has already accomplished this. Save a dozen more or punish the person who almost got away with genocide? Sleep better knowing Kate Bowman gets to continue living another day or sleep better knowing Balak isn't planning further slave grabs and terrorist actions?

Not only that, but capturing Balak gives you the chance to keep him alive so that he can be further interrogated. Considering he implies he is just the beginning of a larger revolution, he might know something important about batarian interests. Or maybe he's just got delusions of grandeur.

I hope the listen .

I really like, committing other team members to secondary roles. Felt more alive, than just.....we 3 go into danger, while everyone else stays while Kasumi serves drinks... :P
