Well as it turns out the game will use the wheel system from mass effect adjusted to be based on emotions. this actually makes the awakening system sound good. i guess it also means that fan input doesn't matter as much to bioware as people here led me to believe. i find this to be disheartening, why did they bother to give the game such an in depth conversation system, origins and multiple races just to discard them immediately . well perhaps dragon age 3 will go back to its roots but i doubt it. its a shame really they striped all the elements that got me interested in the game and effectively killed my interest in the game.

I thought that the Awakening system was great. I never liked the "broken up interview" style of conversations in all the prior Bio games. It just makes a lot more sense for followers to comment on the world around them and then have that lead into conversations. That's how people talk to each other in real life. No real person would just feed you their entire life story one piece at a time.

Only other thing I'd like to see is more conversations focused around major decisions that you as a player have made/are about to make. Creates the impression that followers are people with their own opinions, not empty shells.

So the Awakening system is not in? Find random tree was terrible, because you had to force tab every spot just to make sure you'd get a conversation, and then you couldn't even be sure if it was one companion or not.

Inversely, no person will only talk to you about random objects around them. "Yo, damn, a lamp! That reminds me when I was in third year of law school..."

Conversation is sponatenous and we do it when we're around each other a lot and generally don't have better things to do. Most of the time we talk about pointless nonsesne like what happened yesterday and why that guy who spits when he talks is annoying. Video-games can't really simulate real conversation because they can't afford mundane conversation.

The two aren't mutually exclusive.

I personally preferred the Origins system but the Awakening system had good ideas, just poorly executed. But how you interact with the companions and characters is something I'm looking forward to hearing more about.

I think you are too negative. At least we would meet all our beloved old favorite companions this way:
Barrel, Picture, Book and Tree!

It won't be used...think David Gaider said something along the lines of it being a combination of both.
