I was thinking about mass effect 2, it was fun... for the 30 hours it took to beat the entire game, and side mission (and having everyone survive) cool... i look back and see mass effect 1 took me wayyy longer to do everything
Mass Effect 1 had insane amounts of customization, between the plentiful character skill trees, weapon mods, and other small features
Mass Effect to shortened the skill trees into half and completely did away with the weapon mods
As i played mass effect 2 i noticed there were SEVERAL times shepard just spoke, without me choosing what, this happened minimal times in the first game, but many times in the sequal
the combat was amped up but i still almost prefer the mass effect 1 style
The ending of mass effect 1 was also better
The overall game of me1 was better
my main problem was the length though, mass effect 2 is such a short game

Don't talk about how much better the combat is in 2 because its supposed to be an RPG not a shooter, i hope they remember that in me3...:wizard:

Mass effect 1 is superior in many ways.

ME1 is better in these ways,

1. A larger universe in order to land on many more planets to explore, giving the real feeling of command.
2. Space travel was better in ME1 vs. the make your space ship move and use fuel option. That feature in ME2 adds nothing to immersion just a pain.
3. Admiril Hackett is a missed part in ME2, that was present in ME1. It added more immersion and depth to the gameplay not to mention a lot more quests.
4. The variety of weapons and armor in ME1 was much better.
5. the inventory, and looting system system in ME1 is much missed in ME2. I know they tried to steamline the inventory system, but in my opinion they went to far with that.
6. Exploring main locals like the citidal and so on was better in ME1. ME2 was to linear in that approach.
7. On an overall ME1 was a much better game as far as depth, and exploration.
8. ME1 was a larger game world in comparison to ME2. I can complete ME2 in a much shorter timeframe then ME1.

ME2 was better in these ways,

1. Graphics,controls were far superior in ME2
2. In depth development of squad members and their loyality missions was a nice touch to add a polish to their stories.
3. Don't get me wrong I still love ME2, but after playing both of them back to back, ME1 was a much better and satisfying gaming experience.

The way me and my friends look at is that ME2 is a better GAME, while ME1 was a better EXPERIENCE. The gameplay aspects of ME2 are VASTLY improved...the combat, the level design, etc. The story, leveling system, and overall epic feel of the first game, however, was not matched.

I'd agree with that more or less.  I do enjoy the combat in ME2 more and the technical aspects of their digital acting and cinematography improved a lot, but the story and overall feel of the game really took a nosedive.

That is the way I see it too. It probably has to do with the fact that
ME1 was so exciting because it was completely new. But on the other hand, while
ME2 has a lot of gameplay improvements, I think they overdid it a little with
the dark and gritty characters. ME1 had an epic feel to it because you had
a team of heroic characters at your side. In ME2, it always feels like you are
playing a bunch of reckless outlaws (even if you play paragon). I hope that
with ME3 they find a better balance again but keep the gameplay improvements
(with some more customization options maybe).

Yeah I thought a couple of the characters were unrealistic.  Jack, Zaheed, Kasumi, I didn't like too much.  Kasumi isn't really "evil" but I could never see her risking her life for the galaxy.  The other two would have never joined your cause realistically.  Grunt bothers me too.  I get he was suppose to be wrex's replacement, but he really has no character.  He is just a killer, which he often states.  Wrex was a tough guy, buy there was more to him than just killing.  Miranda has character but she is just heartless and cruel.

True, but I have to say that as a soldier and infiltrator, the combat in ME2 was more fun.

My last play in ME1 was an Infiltrator and first play in ME2 was that Infiltrator imported.
For me, explosive rounds in sniper > Widow, more fun to boot.

What is missed about mindlessly omnigelling/selling 145 items at a time?
