The idea behind the single point in the bonus skill (slam and Miranda for example) is that by completing the loyalty mission... the character actually GETS THE SKILL.
Maybe you don't use them, maybe you don't like them... but it is what it is, and it helps make the character unique. I would be glad to give Miranda a sniper rifle... but that defeats the point of each character being unique.
ok, they get the skill.....JUST LIKE in ME1...wheny ou "unlocked" a skill...it unlocked, period, I never saw ME1 adding a point magically without me ACTUALLY pressinng the A button.
That is my entire point. ME1 had that....it unlocked....if I wanted to further improve that skill, it was my choice, NOT BIOWARE'S!!!
sure, you likemore control... but correct me if I am wrong, but isn't that bonus skill point free? (i.e you get it above and beyond tte points a squad mate gets for each level. I was never concerned as I always assumed that it was the case.
It isn't free. is added for completing something.
Just like when you became a spectre in ME1 you were awarded some points, they weren't just magically added to spectre training, to charm or intimidate.
if I want sheperd to in with Colossus armor and naked from the weist up, is my choice

:police:
Slow down... I looked it up and you do get that point for the bonus power FREE. Sure you have to play the game... but that is a given
So stop crying because no one is taking points from your squad mates. They get the same points per level that they always get, and when you complete the loyalty quest they get one FREE EXTRA point for theor loyalty skill. No loss of control.
People like you are just used to cheating to get that freebe skill point changed for something else.
Leave ME1 out of this... they gave you points in specific skills all the time and there was no say in that (extra points in renegade/paragon, spectre training, etc.). You could not put them in assault rifle or something.

it is the same as the spectre title in ME1. Play it again.
When becoming a spectre you get skill points.
YOu completed loyalty mission/ you completed incriminated saren
you get point for free added without you CHOOSING/ you get points for free added to the reserve count waiting for you to use them as you see fit.
How again is that different????

The irony f my original post. Some people will never be happy, no matter what you give them. Give their squad mate a free point in an extra skill... and they will complain that they wanted the point somewhere else. (thus my point that I want Miranda to have a sniper rifle... but she doesn;t because her character was not designed to be a sniper)

You keep editing your reply... so I am struggling to keep up with your question and points.
Originally you stated (pre editing, as I understand it) that in ME1, the game does not force porce points into specific skills. My reply is that this is NOT true. You get free points added to either your paragon or renegade slots depending on how you play the game for example. You have no choice in this matter.
or maybe I am misunderstanding what you wrote above, and indeed we both agree that in noth ME1 and ME2, at times, your character, or your squadmate is given a "free" skill point that is put in a specific skill slot based on some action(s) you completed in the game. Thus, generally you have control of where points go... but once and a while, specific decisions result in points bein put into skills that relate to the gaming situation.

yes, but at the end you max out charm or intimidate, so it doesn't matter. there is no such skill here.
If there were enough point to max out all 4 skills...why would I argue?
which points are added to barrier... or assault rifles, besides the innitial ones???the poitns given to you for becoming a spectre are....2? or 3, and 1 is added to spectre training. Your going to use it anyways, but still would have liked to have it on my reserve.
NEVERTHELESS, you miss my other point. When you restart the game points are taken off for pals, and everything is empty except passive skills I think.
I dont mind games being awarded magically, on my first playthrough, but not on subsequent ones.

There are not enough points to max out all 4 skills because that is what the designers wanted. They wanted the variety... otherweise every squadmate would play the same in every playthrough.Spartas Husky wrote...

Well I guess you wil have to find the strength and suck up the fact that you won't be able to re-assign those free skill points in ME2.
I am pulling for you. Be strong.

Trust me... those extra hundreds of hours spent scanning planets is NOT worth it.
It is not about the size of the scanner... but how you use it. If miranda wanted you to have a larger scanner... she would have given it to you.

go read then come back.
I dont max my skills or my squads, I take the points and put them else where. Nothing more.
Miri has no Slam, Jacob, has no ammo power, Tali has no AI, Legion has no drone, Garrus has no ammo but full overload, etc etc etc.
Like I have said before. BIo made a technical oversight, but forcing points where I dont want them, I am just fixing their......"oversight" *cough* clear lack of testing*cough*
Lastly, I mentioned multiple times:
Nobody in the entire team of Bioware working on ME2, ever just ever, out of nowhere yelled out and asked
"hey guys....anybody think, we should have Retrain powers available for all squadmembers...maybe...no? anyone???"
....really nobody every in 2 years of programming every had that thought crossed their minds.

ACtually, thanks to Mass effect wiki, gamefaqs, and a bit of testing, I know exactly what quadrant has the resources I need, on what planet and what system.
So is not really that bad anymore, but is not good either still; nevertheless I just go in, count squares up, then right, scan certain area and leave.
