Hello, i was wondering if the patch should say version 1.02a or just 1.02 when i look at it in the Game Utility Data under version? Cause if it's not 1.02a then i haven't gotten the patch yet.

The problems i've been experiencing are random freezes during travel or gameplay that are just complete halts, freezes during loading screens (where it says loading in the bottom right corner during gameplay) that never stop loading, freezes where the audio continuously loops, and random stats (numbers) above my character that never go away. During the loading screen freezes and some others, the XMB still remains active yet the ps3 shows no signs of the game processing anything (no flashing light or noises from the ps3) unless i prompt the XMB, which will make the ps3 make a loading sound. During all of these problems i cannot shut off the ps3 cause it leads to a black screen that never ends with the ps3 shutting off. The only way to do so is to manually do a hard-shutoff.

I did a reinstall of the game by deleting the utility data on the ps3 cause i thought this was a problem i caused by using a duplication glitch (i got the platinum for the game about 3 weeks ago and i just wanted to run around with super strength), and the reinstall took 5-6 times cause it would lock up during install where it would just stop loading during the install, yet the ps3 still remained active. I sat there during each freeze and reinstall freeze hoping it would pull through, but it never did. Once the game finally installed and i recollected all my DLC off the download lists scattered around different profiles, on the start up screen it told me i had corrupted save game data, yet all the saved games still ran but locked up randomly.

So, i did a 2nd reinstall and deleted all my saved game data Image IPB and it locked up around 4-5 times during the 2nd install. When the game finally installed and all DLC was collected again, everything seemed to run faster during the start up screen and character creation, yet i cannot even get past the very begining of the character's story without the game completely freezing.

I was wondering if you guys were experiencing the same problems as me, ive had my ps3 since feb 2010 (so not that long) and every other game i have runs perfectly. The Dragon age CD is literally scratchless/smudgeless so i doubt it would be a problem with the CD. I'm on the western coast of the US, so im hoping by some chance i didnt get the patch yet, and when it comes everything will be ok again.

Ya i got the same problem, had the game for about a week now and before patch 1.02 the game would freeze on me every 1-2 minutes. I got the patch last night and it still freezes just as much. The patch did absoutely nothing for me. Pretty irritating. Been dieing to play this since i bought it and i cant even break level 2 before quitting due to frustration.

Curious about something, as mine is one of the games that still freezes. To people who are still having problems, are you playing from a save that you made when all this freezing stuff began? Its just my house mate started a new game on her profile, and hasn't encountered any crashes yet, whereas when I load up my game it crashes within 1-2 minutes. I wondered if perhaps the save file I have is corrupted or damaged or something from the old patch and that I just have to start again from scratch?

Ive tried both current save, a new save, reinstalling and starting a new game, reformatting then re installing and then a new game, it all fails.

Thats how its looking, ill be patient and see if any solutions/problems are identified since its only been one day since the patch. Hopin for some feedback as to why the success/fail rate with 1.02 seems to be all over the place atm.

It doesnt make sense as to why it works for some and doesn't for others, somethings gotta be missing

You cannot reinstall the firmware update. The system won't allow that. (Tried it myself.) So whoever told you that they reinstalled the firmware update...well that's not possible, so either they are confusing something or just lie, either way if the game does not run with this patch all you can do is wait for the next one, or shelv the game forever.

You can as one of the other posters mentioned, you just have to do so manually, ie. download it to a USB drive.  I did it myself back when I was trying to "troubleshoot" the problems the update caused.

That would only work if you did not finish the update. But Sony does not allow applying the same firmware twice(which make perfect sense).

After the update, Dragon Age froze while checking save game data, before I even got a chance to test the game.

The game hasn't froze on me yet, but I have noticed a lot of chugging. I see a lot of slow down.

Mine is freezing on a new install , playing from the beginning on a different system with a brand new 500 g hard drive added (formerly original 60g model) installed. I was able to play for about four hours and then locked up in the Ostegar tower/ogre battle. But it was the same symptoms as on my other system..freezing, soundtrack music continues. I'll keep playing but if it keeps up I'm going to give up on this game.

US (midwest), PS3 slim, downloaded patch last night.

Got the DLC ok.

Played for several hours now with no freezing/crashing.

Much happier now.

@Bioware: Keep up the good work!!

Which is odd. When I try to update via flash drive it says "No update data found." Even tho the flash drive is displayed on my PS3 and I used the correct folder structure( /PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP). So I don't know why you claim to be able to do so, but I can assure you that my system(a PAHT60GB) will not reinstall the firmware.

Lol, that's because you technically cant, and shouldnt install an older firmware... From everywhere i've ever read, installing an older firmware, somewhat requires a hack, and when you do choose to install an older firmware, you lose access to playing any ps3 video game title that requires the firmware update (pretty much all of them) and movies, along with trophies and internet access....so any that says they can use older firmware isnt a liar, but not the smartest idea.

So I tried the reinstallation of the firmware again and it didn't work in the XMB, tho it now works when using the debug menu(which it didn't do before). Anyways just thought I let you know in case anyone else still hast problems with freezes or the DLC(like I do) and is willing to try about everything(non harmful stuff of course ;) ). Now I wonder if it helps...I'm pretty sure it won't tho.

@I_Hug_Fat_Kids: I perfectly know that it does not make any sense. And I know why Sony should not allow that(Geohot or anyone else might make something nice...).

You have to install it via the safe menu and use the same fw version you already have installed.

hmm okay, so i was playing god of war 3, and the game froze just like it would on dragon age...the image paused on the game, yet the audio kept playing and the XMB was still active when prompted but the game would not quit nor was there any hard drive activity. So im going to do a system reset /reformat or w/e and see if that fixes everything for me :(

Edit: wait time approximately 9 hours 21 mins Image IPB ...worst idea ever... too late now. I hope this freakin works though, i lost all my dragon age saved game data tryin to get this crap to work, so i guess losing all my data is the next step in hopefully a succesful process Image IPB

You could try deleting alot of the stuff on your ps3 manually to cut down on the wait time since manually deleting saves. etc. are almost instant. Also if your having freezing/keeping sound problems with other games also it may be a ps3 problem. You keep your vents clean from dust?

Yeah, i keep my ps3 in good condition. It just now got done reformatting and Dragon age locked up during the install.

I doubt the game will play without freezing if i even bother to finish trying to install it...i quit

Okay, so i did try to install the game again because i love this damn game, and when i put the disk in directly after turning my ps3 on and off from the XMB, i put the CD in and it came up with an error code (80010514) which apprently from what im reading all around the internet means there's a hardware failure wether its firmware or whatever, or a blueray drive failure or somethin like that...So i guess my ps3 is dead now...

im so bummedImage IPB
