I heard it's ugly and the stats are crappy. Haven't seen it yet, just want to warn you.

Tried it out and wasn't impressed.

The weapon is nice, but nothing you cannot do without easily.

The whole thing is just a replay of the battle of Denerim from the darkspawn perspective, where all you do is kill people and destroy things. No character development to speak of (you can't even choose which skills to take as you level). The game picks them up for you and they're just normal warrior abilities.

Sure, was nice to read about your former companions and to see how Alistair handled things, but ultimately it's something you'll want to play once and forget about it, unless you're determined on getting all the achievements.

Wish they had a beautiful set of longswords, daggers & Axes for DWs with a set item bonus.

Don't have the screenie, but here's a description with stats:

Blightblood

longsword, one-handed
dragonbone (tier 7)
requires: strength 31
restriction: warrior or rogue
damage: 11.20
critical chance: 3.20%
armor penetration: 4.00
strength modifier: 1.00

+3% (AW* +5%) melee critical chance
+2 (AW* +6) attack
+10% (AW* +15%) crit/backstab damage
poison: venom

3 rune slots

* AW = awakening

looks like an ordinary darkspawn longsword.

I wouldn't rant if it was nice to read.

Siding with the templars? Maybe, things can go wrong.
Slaying the Dalish? Even the children? Extremely unlikely!
Preserving the Anvil? Just NO!
Hooking up with Leliana? Yes.
Sparing Zevran and telling him to get lost? Why yes!
Ignoring Oghren and still heading into the Deep Roads? You don't find the Ashes but refuse help to find the Anvil of The Void and find it anyway?
Not curing Eamon (who miraculously still calls a Landsmeet while unconcious)? Very unlikely!
Killing Loghain and marrying Anora? Uh, speechless. If the Warden dies, the Force is severely disturbed and Anora turns into a doormat, marrying the man who killed Daddy dearest.
Sparing Howe and making him an ally? *facepalm*
Morrigan following him around to laugh at him and get herself killed in the end? Is she really THAT stupid? What about survival?

Uh, the codex is never meant to be serious or I'll eat my pants. It is hilarious! :o
The only entry that was remotely interesting if you want to nitpick: Goldanna - Alistair believed her to be his  half-sister... ;)

They were doing this on purpose.

Well, the fact it's an alternate reality means they can write whatever they want no matter how silly/stupid it looks.

Not in my opinion.

Well, of course they can and they did obviously but it's the quality of a crackfic. You may find it funny or not, but it certainly doesn't offer any insight.

You could also take the AU thing seriously and make up a more believable story about what Alistair would do on his own. In fact there is a fanfic that is telling this tale and it's doing it extremely well.

I should stop here, the DLC isn't worth the effort of analyzing it.

I liked it.

Knowing that it was mainly just going to be taking place in Denerim, i knew it wasnt going to be a long piece of DLC, so I wasnt bothered by that.

I'll need to go back and read the codec entries, I kind of rushed through it the first time, I need to stop doing that.

Killing Goldana was just awesome, and I will never tire of seeing Renden Howe bloody and mutilated corpse laying on the ground.

Cant wait for the next piece of DLC

Basically it's the battle of Denerim from a darkspawn perspective, and with an important part.

NO ****ING BLOODY LAG! Seriously I was expecting it to have slowdowns/lags etc like the vanilla one, but this one was great. In fact I consider it a finer a battle then the original one.

The Legion of the Dead is just kicking ass and taking names here.

Some people expect a one hour DLC to have as much story as the normal game, seriously people what you expect?

It created a plausible ( yes you heard me ) alternate scenario.

Overall, I had fun giving it a playthrough. Will I play it again and again? No, probably not. Though, now that I don't have to worry about trying out all possible thralls, I do want to run around with just shrieks. Hee.

I don't know what all the whining is about, but it doesn't surprise me. People were whining about the talent-point glitch-fix for Mass Effect 2. Boo-freaking-hoo. This DLC was advertised as a "what if?" module, not a storyline expansion or clarification. You can't expect different than you're told you're going to get.

And, really, the codex entries are long enough to connect the dots and see in your mind's eye what happened regarding your companions without you being around. You don't need super-long codex entries to do this, unless you actually do need to have it all spelled out for you.

Just a quick comment on my earlier assessment of The Darkspawn Chronicles. I am not complaining that it was a mere H&S.. I knew that was the case already. My complaint was how boring it was! That had to be the most uneventful battle ever.

I care less of unlocked achievements, worthless weapons unlocked for a game I have already played ad nauseum. I have no use for the added pixel crack. Recycled cinematic scenes coupled with a boring H&S... That is my true complaint. This gave a ridiculous scenario, as if one single GW's death would have changed everything.  Mindless rotting tainted husks defeating the rest of the world.. "nods uhuh"

There is no insight into the "other side of the story." I don't believe the DLC ever purported to present such a thing.

There isn't actually any insight into our usual side of the story. There's never any point in Origins in which the main character or his/her band of merry misfits think, "O' lark, why must we solve everything with violence? We should seek to understand the darkspawn condition and work things out as equals and friends and lovers! C'mere, Broodmother! Kissies for all!"

The only "insight" to either side of the story is the "people" don't want to die, and the darkspawn want to kill.

But the premise is supposed to be 'this is what happens when you die during the Joining your origin' not 'this is what happens in bizarro world.' Posted Image

Indeed, some of the choices of allies Alistair made are weird. But thinking from the developers point of view the choices are kinda justified. I mean it's more impressive (and hard) to fight against an army of golems and werewolves than an army of elves and mages. On the other hand this dlc shows that Alistair is not so much the typical "paladin" of the OC. He "played" the game as "evil".  Posted Image

Hehe, I thought it was pretty cool. Some mindless fun.

*SPOILERS**

Never would have figured Allister would have sided with the werewolves, golems, saved the anvil, and spare Zevran. Also the big shocker was the whole Demon with Wade

Perhaps Alistair went to Orzammar, where he refused to kill Oghrens wife in front of him while Morrigan and Sten went to the elves - where they made a tactical choice about Zathrian.

Hence the choices made. Not that unreasonable.

I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. Honestly, I wasn't forced to kill Shale and the Alistair in this world is so far removed from the one I'm familar with it's like killing his mediocre twin brother.

Bryzon, it wasn't a target in mine either, I just tossed the fire grenade on there and it eventually burned down.

Actually, if the Alistair you face in this DLC is easily killed and mediocre then that's EXACTLY like the Alistair in the OC, in my opinion.  At least in all of my playthroughs.

I'm actually getting this specifically to be able to kill Alistair because I hated that panzy so much.  It's worth my money just for that alone.
