Ive got a quad 2.4, 8 gigs of ram, and a 9500GT. But my games loading screens take seriously up to 15 minutes sometimes. And the game is quite laggy at random times. I noticed it gets laggier and laggier as well as the loading screens get progressively longer the longer I play. I dont understand this. I really like this game but I dont want to keep playing it if it takes me all day to just play maybe like an hours worth of actual gameplay. I probably could have beatin it by now. Suggestions?

Your graphics card is the problem. Well even though DA doesn't have that good of graphics, your entry level card may not be up for the job!

I played all the day yesterday, and I noticed that after some hours loading times increased and then things like loot showing up on corpses (the glitter effect) and opening loot windows took like 10 seconds.

The easy fix to this is to close the game and start it again, that fixed it for me. :)

Admittedly your graphic card is poor, there is known issue where if you alt tab at all whilst the game is being played, the consequent loading times will be increasingly longer and the only way to resolve this is to exit and reopen the game again.

it's true it fixes it but if you have to play like that...better getting a new graphics card xD, that's what i'm going to do anywaysPosted Image

i'll take that back, it's not your (or my) graphics card, it's a memory leak XD

it's his GPU too... the 9500 is an entry level card, as well anything less than 512mb of RAM on the graphics card will become a system bottleneck

**edit: Nevermind, I'm in a bad mood and being mean. Its just the memory leak it should be fixed once EA lets them patch it.:alien:

Well its nearing my B-Day so I guess a new graphics card will be a good idea regardless. And if that doesnt work I guess I will just have to wait for the patch you mentioned. Thanks.

yep. Ive had this problem too. A restart of the game fixes it. I dont know if its time played or textures processed, but after a while it takes 3, 5 to 10 min to load anything. Page thrashing maybe? A64x2_4400/9800GTX_512_v195b/4GBDDR2/Vista64.

I think this game has a memory leak problem. Or somthing else similarly odd. I only get this if I play for a long while. I reset my game and the load times seem to disappear.

So my solution is to take a 5 minute break every so often to reset your game.

It's a widely reported issue, it seems to be coming from users with AMD CPUs (usually dual or quad core), coming from users with vastly superior video cards and system builds in general. Adjusting the core affinity and priority for the process does no good - nor does the usual round of troubleshooting (updating drivers and firmware, chkdsk and defrag, etc). There's nothing in the event logs, and personally I'm not coming close to saturating my disk, memory, CPU, etc (I.E. no bottlenecks).

I ran some perf counters (as hinted above) and while the client does appear to be consuming a lot of commited bytes (memory it claims that no other process, application, or service can use) it doesn't really escalate all that quickly, and even appears to level out while the long load times kick in - so it may not be as simple as a memory leak. Besides, as I mentioned before, I still have plenty of memory available for the kernel or user processes. Hell, I can alt tab out while Dragon Age is performing poorly and literally fire up other applications and they perform fine.

Restarting the client resolves it. Which kind of sucks.

I hope Bioware finds the problem soon. Loving the game, but restarting it every twenty-to-thirty minutes is getting tiring.

Sonar Fej is right on target. I have a AMD 9600 Quad and I have the same load time issues. Up to 10 minutes to load the game. I'm running a GeForce 260 so I know my GPU is not the problem. Any insight would be helpful. If it is a memory leak I hope a patch is out soon. Thanks.

I have intel and it still does it, but then simply getting out of game and back in every hour or two fixes it. you should take a break every hour or so anyway to relieve eye strain and such so I don't really see it as a big deal but of course fixing it would be nice.

It could be worse for AMD users though, just wanted to state it isn't AMD only.

I am on intel and have the memory leak also. Its not an isolated issue related to cpu's its a bug in the coding. It will be less noticable the more ram your machine has at it takes longer for the game to eat it up. But in the cases of the 2 gigs in my xp machine, that means a restart fo the game about every hour. Only takes about 20 seconds since I have gotten into the habit of just hitting f5, alt + f4, then restarting game and hitting resume.

try setting processor affinity to the 2nd core only... that has been proven to slow the issue (it's actually not a "memory leak" but an issue where the CPU isn't dropping the thread once it's completed the task) Those of us running the game on single core systems (and with affinity set) are able to play 10+ hours without the slowdown... I've gotten 30 second load times after as many as 13 hours of play

I have not run any tests as such but i do think its a threadding problem, or rather retaining threads too long, as my system ram never goes over 60% and i have 2 gig on an xp (32) sp3 set up. When the long load times occur my cpu useage drops from 99-1005 to approx 50% for a couple of mins then once the HDD kicks in loading textures etc its back to 100% and bingo i am back in. Other than threadding all i can think of is a memory leak on the graphics card (RAM)...not sure what to use to monitor that though.

I'm almost 100% sure on the CPU issue, it's apparently a widely recognized issue on AMD X2 systems (if the google results are any indication) and it would make sense that it might affect mostly newer intel chips

Hey guys,

I am just curious for the people that are suffering from this problem, what operating system are you using, in addition to your processor.
I agree at first glance it seems like something like a memory leak could be the cause of this, or perhaps something to do with multicore processors. Regardless, the possibility of a technical issue with the game is apparent, so I will definitely be filing this one.
JironGhrad's post refers to a potential solution, but if I can get the team lists of hardware specs that have this issue, it will help out the programming team a lot.

Thanks!

Allan

I've been catching these all over. Quite a few of the systems are AMD X2 but they are from all OSs and there are intel processors with the issue as well... I have NOT seen anyone with a single core CPU complain of the problem

I so hoped you were halfway through it already, to release a patch :( I just finished the game and i want to do all achievements, but the original excitement of the new game and story is now gone, and only the perfectionism pushes me to play it a couple of more times, but this issue really bothers me...

Anyway my piece of rock:
Motherboard: Asus M2A-VM
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+ @ 2200 Mhz
Video Card: NVIDIA 9800GT
RAM: 5120MB
OS: Windows XP Pro SP3

Alright I have the long load times after playing for more then an hour or two without restarting the game and here are my specs...

AMD Athlon dual core x64 3800+
2GB of ram
nvidia geforce 7600 GT 256MB
Windows XP with service pack 3 installed and all current updates installed.
