@ mrmats and the others with i7s with problems

Have you tried setting processor affinity to a single core (avoid number 01 as this will cause a crash)?

I'll try that now. DA will only use one core no matter what?

edit: Nevermind that last bit. Setting it to only one core seemed to lower the performance though. =(

I adjusted process priority and CPU affinity a while ago, in various combinations across my four cores, and it only made the issue far, far worse (to be expected by providing less cycles to a process instead of more, but I thought I'd humor you).

Windows Vista™ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6001) Service Pack 1 (6001.vistasp1_gdr.090302-1506) (< -- 32-bit)

GeForce 8800 GT (souped up Acer) Dedicated Memory: 499 MB, Shared Memory: 1279 MB, 660 MHz core clock, 950 MHz memory (1900 data rate), 1650 MHz shader, x16

I posted in a previous thread, but since there is a BW request, I'm putting it here too. The game generally runs great, but I have the same transition load time increase over time, from well under a minute up to well over 5. Exiting and restarting always fixes it.

By the way guys, I forgot to mention that the proposed CPU affinity workaround is to address what's known as the TLB workaround - in which to get around the stability issues of some AMD Phenom processors, motherboard (and BIOS) manufacturers essentially reduces the processing power of one core in a dual core, or three in a quad core. They also force one (or three) to run at half power (half the MHz) by default.

You can download the AMD CPUInfo utility to see if you're affected (check the current processor speeds, and go to the bottom of the list and see if the TLB workaround is enabled). It's almost always core 1 in a dual core or core 1 in a quad core (CPU count starts at 0, so in a quad core you have cores 0, 1, 2, and 3, dual core is 0 and 1).

So if you want to try it, set the affinity to the core currently running at the highest speed. The problem is, processing power is really a cumulative thing, and it's handled pretty much the same way from Windows XP SP2 clear on through Windows 7. So adjusting your affinity will, more than likely (as was my case), just deprive the client of CPU cycles instead of providing more.

I haven't had super-long loading times but I noticed them getting noticeably longer occasionally. Easily fixed with a restart for me, though. 5-15 minutes? Yikes.

Yea, not sure what's the ultimate cause. Though your CPU doesn't suffer from the TLB bug, I don't think (if that's even the cause).

I just re-applied the latest BIOS for my motherboard and unfortunately don't have a way to disable the workaround. So I went ahead and ran hardware diagnostics one more time, and just installed Vista SP2. After a round of updates I'm going to give Dragon Age one more shot. If it's still bad every 30+ minutes, I guess I'll just have to live with it until a patch is published :)

It's probably more along the lines of a memory leak, since even closing and starting up the game again immediately fixes it for a good long while.

If it were heat related it would be endemic to system operation overall - and your system would more than likely simply halt or reboot.

I have progressively longer and longer load times as well.

AMD quad core 9500

8gb ram

geforce 8800 GT

Win7 x64 RC

... coincidently, I had (2) 8800 GTs in SLI mode a week ago. After trying the TLB work around -- it ran great, until the next day. Then there were green dots on my screen that wouldn't go away ... had to pull the first 8800 and turn off SLI ... to get the dots to go away. Guess it over-worked the video card or something.

I've been getting longer and longer wait times as well if I play longer than an hour without a break during loading but since yesterday the sound has been cutting during cut scenes and is lagging a little when looting mobs. Also getting random crashes to desktop with no error message...looked in event log and it's a different module everytime.

My Spec is as follows:

Intel® Pentium® D CPU 3.40GHz

3400 MHz - Clock Speed

2.99 GB - MEM

512 MB - VRAM

NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GT

Microsoft Windows XP Professional - SP3

My Game lags after 10 oder 15 Minutes of gameplay. 1 click takes 10 seconds to work. To solve the Problem, you have to restart the Game every 15 minutes! - This sucks..! :(

- 4 GB Ram

- Win Vista (32 Bit)

- Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T9400 @ 2,53GHz

An update, Vista SP2 didn't improved my overall system performance, but Dragon Age is still basically the same. The problem kicks in after exactly four area transitions - inter or intra zone. :(

Same problem after a few hours, saving and then reloading fixes it for a while. Messing around with the affinity didn't help.

Hi Guys,

I'm getting the same issue, game runs fine with fairly high settings but loads times get exponential ly longer as I play.

My specs:

2 Xeon 3.2 Nocona single core processors with Hyper-Threading enabled.

2gb of Ram

ATI Radeon 4830 512mb ram

Right due to having two processors I get Intel's HT on so I get 4 'virtual cores'. I'm going to try playing around with the processor affinity, set it to just one processor (2 cores), then just one 'core' and then try it with HT turned off and see what happens.

Hey guys,

I am just curious for the people that are suffering from this problem, what operating system are you using, in addition to your processor.
I agree at first glance it seems like something like a memory leak could be the cause of this, or perhaps something to do with multicore processors. Regardless, the possibility of a technical issue with the game is apparent, so I will definitely be filing this one.
JironGhrad's post refers to a potential solution, but if I can get the team lists of hardware specs that have this issue, it will help out the programming team a lot.

Thanks!

Allan

Slowdown seems random for me, sometimes after 30mins others after 1-2 hrs, goes from 1-3 sec load to 1-3 mins at most for ME.Restarting does fix it though.

I've been struggling with load times up to 15min. I've lots of stuff but restarting the game is the only thing that works. Also for those of us who are experiencing in-game lag, such as loot taking forever to show up try zooming all the way out. I've noticed that helps a lot. As well as doing a couple 360s around your character with the camera. Hope this gets fixed!

The long load times usually don't hit until after getting to Ostragar. A save and quit, followed by a reload of the save usually solves this, but later on in the game they just get noticeably longer.

I did try something that was mentioned in this thread about .Net Framework 4.0 beta:

http://social.biowar...O-528409-1.html

After uninstalling Net Framework and Installing the 4.0 beta I did notice much better overall framerates, but I have not had much time since then to completely test if this was really causing the issue or not.

Intel i7 920 with 9 gigs of ram and usually it takes about an hour for the tremendously long load times to start happening. I really hope they fix whatever this problem is. I do agree that it seems to be a memory leak of sorts, but you'd think that would be easily fixable. I think the problem is that they keep too much of the stuff persistant on the PC version. Like I'm seeing corpses of stuff I killed days ago if I go back to older areas for the odd ball sidequests.
