Seconded. Is there a dazip or manual installation procedure for darkspawn chronicles because the dragon age downloader does not work well for me at all.

http://na.llnet.biow...C_DRK_1.0.dazip

This file is 364MB, just found it by looking in "Documents and Settings\\All Users\\Application Data\\BioWare\\Dragon Age\\DAUpdater\\Data" where DAUpdater downloads dazips and reading this post http://social.biowar.../58/index/81613 (there are URLs to other DLC's dazips) Just started downloading though, so I can't tell for sure if this is the one for Darkspawn Chronicles.

Shame Dragon Age doesn't have the same simple and efficient DLC system as Mass Effect 2, where you download DLCs using any program you like =( With my slow connection, DA almost never downloads large dazips like Warden's Keep or Return to Ostagar.

I'll try this. Thank you! I was just about to start looking for where the updater downloads this stuff. I've *never* gotten any of my DLC's to work via the updater. :(

And that worked! I double-clicked the dazip file at Documents and Settings\\\\All Users\\\\Application Data\\\\BioWare\\\\Dragon Age\\\\DAUpdater\\\\Data just like you said, and it installed perfectly. Stupid updater garbage thing. Is there some reason I can't just download the file directly from bioware and not have to deal with the updater? Meh, whatever. Thank you again for taking the time to help us out here, bro_9009

Thank you for the help Bro that was the file i needed lets hope bioware and Ea pull there heads out of there A**** and get a better way to download content for this game because its easier to pirate than buy. the Ea tech support is a joke im no mechanic so i dont work on cars it appears they're staff dont know much about computers or their games they sell so maybe they should look for diferent employment.

Happy to help =) Just finished downloading myself, gonna check this DLC out )

I guess it's a safe bet that the procedure for manual download of all of the future DLCs is:

1) First, you can check out this thread social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/58/index/81613 titled "Redeemed DLC Unofficial Troubleshooting and FAQ (PC Only)", section "4.1List of the DLC and their folder name as well as the link for a direct download" as there might already be a link for the DLC you want to download.

If there isn't you can try to find the link yourself as I did today with Darkspawn Chronicles:

1) Start the download in Dragon Age

2) Look up names of the .dazip files being downloaded in "Documents and Settings\\\\All Users\\\\Application Data\\\\BioWare\\\\Dragon Age\\\\DAUpdater\\\\Data" (that's the path in XP, not sure about Vista and Win7)

The files are named (judging by the links to DLCs posted in the Redeemed DLC... tread) like this:

"DAO_PRC_*name*_*version*.dazip"

So for Darkspawn Chronicles *name* is "DRK" and *version* is "1.0". Ah, and as I understand if name begins with an O, that's the dazip for DLC "offer" (content like merchant from Warden's Keep appearing in your camp asking you to buy this DLC =)

3) from the thread mentioned before, the URL for DLCs' dazips seems to always be like this:

http://na.llnet.biow...dazip_filename*

So, for Darkspawn Chronicles we will have the address that I posted before:

http://na.llnet.biow...C_DRK_1.0.dazip

The URL for offers' dazips is:

http://na.llnet.biow...dazip_filename*

4) Download this files using any program you like (IMHO Free Download Manager is the best downloader for Win (that I know of), it's free and opensource =) and then just run daupdater.exe from where Dragon Age installed (should be in "bin_ship" directory), click "Select Dazips" etc

Hope this helps someone with the same problems as ours in the future =)

What about the offer DLC for Darkspawn Chronicles?

It is not at:
http://na.llnet.biow..._ODRK_1.0.dazip

Nor at similar URLs I tested. Anyone knows?

Is there no offer DLC? To check that, see in game if there is "advertisement" for Darkspawn Chronicles. By advertisement I mean for instance, Sulcher's Pass or Levi waiting at camp.

Not sure, but I did found folder named "dao_prc_drk_o" inside of "My Documents\\Bioware\\Dragon Age\\Offers".
Then I tried this:

http://na.llnet.biow...DRK_O_1.0.dazip

It's a 49.8KB download. So I guess it doesn't always starts with an "O" =) Could someone please confirm if this is the one for Darkspawn Chronicles? Should be, judging by the name.

Also, for the Blightblood (the item that you get with Darkspawn Chronicles) there are two more dazips:

"Blightblood (for Origins)", 65KB:
http://na.llnet.biow...K_DAO_1.0.dazip

"Blightblood (for Awakening)", 58.2KB
http://na.llnet.biow...K_EP1_1.0.dazip

Blightblood is a dragonbone longsword, 11.20 damage (at least that's what I got in my DA:O campaign).

Well, I have downloaded and installed all addons from Bro_9009. Still get and error " cannot load the module", so I guess there must be more files, or I am doing something wrong...

For those who will think I am an idiot: Yes, I have installed earlier that 364 MB module with Dark Chronicles addon.

I only tested this dazip with English version of the game. Not sure if there are separate DLCs for other languages.

There are many problems with Dragon Age DLC system. I run into one of them today - I started the download in Dragon Age, then quit the game and downloaded dazip manualy, installed it using updater, launched the game again and the in-game download was still active, never mind that Darkspawn Chronicles was already in the Installed list. Oh, and all of the installed DLCs were not authorized. I fixed this problem by deleting "My Documents\\Bioware\\Dragon Age\\Settings\\Manifest.xml" and the contents of "Documents and Settings\\All Users\\Application Data\\BioWare\\Dragon Age\\DAUpdater". Everything worked after that.

Sorry I can't be of much help, Pan_k2.

Why did BioWare or EA decided to make the in-game DLC download for DA, instead of going with the same "download the installer" as in Mass Effect 2 is a VERY interesting question. I never had any problem installing DLC in ME2. But in Dragon Age.. well, you know. It's terrible.

I do like the fact that in Dragon Age, the DLCs aren't executable files. ME2's are .exe, I'd have appreciated an archive alternative.

Um, no.  For example, on that page, I only get links to stuff for The Darkspawn Chronicles, and some ME2 files.  Better page:

Locations of Downloadable Content Packages- The Dragon Age Wiki

They are archives, just self-extracting ones (specifically, self-extracting archives with RAR files inside, and a bunch of installer cruft).

Wow. There are links indeed in http://social.biowar...ntitlements.php, but only for Darkspawn Chronicles. And only for content, no links to "offer" dazip.

I hope that means that from now on Bioware is going to provide us with links to DLC dazips on that page so we won't have to look for them anymore when new DLC arrives.

Yes obviously, since in either case it's a bunch of files needing to be copied (aka a DLC). :)

But .exe are a pain to unpack manually. That's my issue with ME2's DLCs. (The fact that they need to be downloaded from the browser is a good thing though)

Well, I don't see how non-EXEs are any easier to unpack manually. Doing it by hand in either case would involve opening the file in an archiver and, well, doing it by hand.

I get what you're saying though: you'd prefer they just have the DLC installer available as separate program.

For Dragon Age, I like that DLC and mods are extremely simple to install and remove by hand, with the certainty that nothing is left behind messing with your game upon DLC/mod's uninstall. ^^ (unlike automated stuff that regularly fails, including game patches, sometimes forcing you to reinstall the whole game)

I said that I like .dazip because they are regular .zip files, so almost any computer can open it by default. .exe files on the other hand, you don't know exactly what they do unless you really go out of your way.

Installing DLC and mods for Dragon Age is pretty easy: Copy the files in a certain folder, copy the manifest's content into a certain XML file and you're done. Revert the process for uninstall.

You can easily add and remove mods with such a simple and transparent installation process, and that's what I like. (Technically mods and DLCs shouldn't need an installer because they are not "full" programs, but plugins: They need their files put in the right box and a simple hook to be given in some game config file.)

The parenthesis I started in my first post here is a bit more lenghty than it should have, sorry ;)
