So you'd never play an RPG where you are say a Mafia guy?

Where I play a mindless monster with no dialogue whose only goal is to kill everything in sight? Nah. It's not my cup of tea. And sorry if it bothers you, but I don't have to like what you do.

Of course, keep in mind that even if it's not voiced you do get dialogue for this objective. Something along the lines of:
Archdemon: "Break their spirits! Leave none alive! Denerim must burn!"

And, again, anything else would have been out of character for the Darkspawn.

That's fine if you don't want to play it for that reason (even if it's only an objective for one of the 5 or 6 areas you play in --- and you only need to kill like 10 civilians). But leaving it out would have felt far stranger and less Darkspawnish. Darkspawn kill. It is their objective.

Thanks for the quick review, I was unsure about buying it, but it helped me conclude the answer (a big, shiny no :) ).

So it's a rushed, stupid, canonically-inconsistent, shallow mess of an add-on?

Big ****ing surprise.

So you mentioned the codex's being filled? What kind of thing do you get then?

There's no such thing as a canon story in the first place, how could it be inconsistent ?

If it wasn't for the bonus blade you get after completing it, I'd call this DLC a waste.

PC players buy DLC for extra items ?
I can slap together a "mod" that gives me a full set of custom-tailored equipment in 10 minutes. For free. What good are DLC items, seriously ?

Plus one'd.  There is a mod that literally gives you the DLC items for free, the only difference being that the names are changed.  They even have the same icons.

I'm also going to add that I encountered alot of bugs while playing on my 360. I think its because of the last patch. When I could attack an enemy I would be hitting the enemy but not inflict any damage to them sometimes and also my orge would get stuck on the side of buildings sometimes

This is even duller than I thought it was, and I already had low expectations.

And yet you didn't play it. And it looks like you won't. I don't know what to make of such an uneducated emotion-driven opinion.

The poster is right.  It's dull as rocks, even for a hack and slash.

Even though combat and playing baddies is not my thing, I could have gotten into it if there was... something, anything.  Some creep factor.  Some "gasp" factor.  Some new insight about darkspawn.  Even a halfway meaningful death of our NPC companions, or some revealing codex.

This just seems like a lazy effort even for what it is.

I have to agree with the majority here, for several reasons already posted.

To quick, to shallow.

I'm glad that it at least had just a little bit of atmosphere, but that is the only good thing about this DLC.

*sigh*

How can an alternate reality be inconsistent with canon? You just come off as very angry.

I give it a 5/10 with 3 points of that 5 going to "LOL HERREN."

Seriously..wtf was up with that?
I was like wwwhhhhaaaaaaaa????

As far as the dlc goes, I'm being generous and giving it a 2/10.

For one, there are only so many generic types of darkspawn.  Why in god's name do I have to redo the tactics on a hurlock that I just enthralled to the same exact tactics I had on a hurlock I lost last fight?

The crashing (as with all of DA's crashing) definately detracted...a ton.
Again, some of the choices Alistair must've made didn't seem very...Alistairy.

And for the love of pete, why the $%#@ did you take an ogre from me that was +100 and give me back one that was 0??  I had Fluffy from the very begining!  Fluffy feared, respected, and danced for me!  One little 'go save fluffy' mission and pow, Fluffy is at 0...WTF Fluffy?? Save yourself next time!

It would've gotten at least a 5/10 if we had been able to customize our character in the slightest.  IE-Genlock, Hurlock, Shriek, rogue, warrior, what tallents/spells.

they're a nice add, always. And that's the only ok thing imo in this add-on even if the blade itself is OP.
And yeah I play on PC, and yeah I do have mods, and no I don't use any uber one because I find that ridiculousfor the way I play the game.
And you're a bit stupid going right away for assuming I did get this dlc JUST for the item when the reason isn't this one. Of course, you just commented the part of my post that didn't include the reason I got this dlc. I'll take that as a total lack of reading skill (what a surprise on these forums) or a very poor attempt at trolling. Not to mention that, as one pointed at it, people who play this game on console, don't have access to mods.  But again, can't expect someone mentally challenged to understand that.

So there it is, and if you have problems understanding that, then spend more time at school and less in front of your computer : "I had read (and hoped) somewhere that you had to actually control your
main Origins character, defeated in the tower and rezzed right after
that by the Darkspawn. Now, THAT would have been a fun idea to play a
known character and not some evil nobody"

Anyway, fact is many people here were expecting a dlc much more consistent even though, the price hinted at something cheap...

Because it is still using the same basic world and NPCs, not entirely "alternate."

The point is that the DLC adds nothing to canon.  We get no insight into the Darkspawn (despite misleading trailers, yay marketing!), we get no revelations or even small details about characters, we don't even get to witness much in the way of human emotion.  Even a few encounters where, as a Darkspawn, you faced the moral dilemma of killing some female NPCs versus dragging them off to become Broodmothers, would make it significantly more interesting.  I would have been willing to stomach the "alternate reality" angle if it actually meant seeing something new and interesting.  From the sound of it, Darkspawn Chronicles has no such things in it.

Instead, what we have is something produced on the smallest budget possible: reused environments, reused characters, very little in the way of new dialogue and voice acting, etc.  Aside from access to things like the original voice actors and lightmapping software, there is very little in such an add-on that a reasonably dedicated team of modders couldn't do in a couple of months.  Do you really feel justified in paying a premium for "official" BioWare content when there are user-made modules that add much more lengthy and interesting experiences, for free?

From what I saw of them yesterday the Codex entries should have been done in monosyllables or grunts...

Yeah ok. I was merely wondering why someone would consider the bonus items worth your money.
Did that justify resorting to insults ? Also I'm not spending any time at school at all, cause I'm, you know, done with it.
Actually, forget it, I can't be bothered to debate nonexistent issues with you...

No harm in that, simply avoid putting words I didn't say in my mouth. I don't bite unless I'm being given a reason to.

hahah so very true; yet you know, that would be a (funny) great idea, to have codex pages written by the darkspawn. Knowing the usual Bioware team sense of humor, it would bring some good laughs.

I thought it was just "meh" and after finishing it I exited the game and walked my dog. It was nothing special, at all.

Well I must agree with the masses. I was disappointed, but in the same vein, how could I not be. The dialouge was basically absent, the team concept was not in view and there just was no purpose, no comraderie to get behind. It was pure Hack & Slash, as many had thought it would be. If I was suppose to learn something about the other side by playing them, well it didn't happen. I learned no more than I already knew. So I layed out my $5.00 bucks and got about 4 hours of Hack & Slash, I guess it was a fair price for what I got. I'm just glad it was only $5.00. I also agree with most that this DLC will not go any further than where it currently is, just a simple twist to keep us interested until the next "REAL" Expansion or DLC comes forth!

Thanks for the spin BioWare, but lets not lose our focus!

Unfortunately I have to agree with the majority here. I've enjoyed the rest of the DLC but this was really poor in my opinion. Everything that made origins great is gone and we are left with a tedious hack 'n' slash. If any thought was put into this then it's sadly not coming through when you play.

This part of the game was the worst in origins anyway if you ask me, once you are locked into the final siege of Denerim in Origins it's basically just a hack and slash anyway, but at least you are hacking and slashing away with characters you care about and doing it for a reason.

A few small bits I did like, well I kinda liked my Ogre I must say, for keeping my Orge alive he should become a pet I can summon with a ranger in the main game. Ogren leading a band of drunks out of the inn was fun and Barkspawn, kinda neat as well.

The only bad thing about TDC is that when we enter Fort Drakon we jump right to the roof. There should be at least two floors of fighting before the roof, killing some prisoner in their cells, chasing the Fort Captain while he screams "Why didn't I take that post at Lothering!", meeting Sandal at the stairs to the second floor and being unable to kill him when he asked "Enchantment?" to the Vanguard.

Seriously, it is a lot of a fun for lousy 400 points (5 bucks) which I usually spend in 30 secs on a burguer or in a day on a pack of cigarretes. TDC is well worthy and fun to play. My first run was in NM and it's tubed. Pretty challenging too. And it may be seen as just another nightmare a warden has after the Joining. It's actually pretty cool to have a new char right at Lothering to play after TDC and then you see that it was just a bad dream while you flirt with Leliana or free Sten from his cage.
