Hello all, when it comes to Vanguards, what do you believe is the best order to max your skills? Is it general consensus that you should max out Heavy Charge first and then immediately max out your passive(Champion)?
And then leaving ammo powers and bonus powers for later?

Thoughts?

Basically what you said is correct.

- Charge
- class Passive
- Incendiary Ammo
- Cryo Ammo for squadmates
- Bonus power

1 point in Pull or Shockwave isn't terrible either for the odd time you want to use it.

I get level 3 charge and 3 passive as quickly as possible. Then heavy charge, then champion, then the incendiary.

I believe Reave as the bonus power. Then Passive Champion Charge, Shockwave, and only two on Incendiary ammo and none on cyro

Generally speaking, maxing charge first is probably optimal.

That's assuming you're going to be using a shotgun (which you should) though. My shuriken vanguard picked up inferno ammo first 'cos it's not as fast as a shotgun .. and the AoE CC with a rapid-firing weapon makes charging a crowd almost safe.

Heavy Charge first, before anything else.

I then prefer to work towards Squad Incendiary and leave the passive skill for later, but I'm sure other strategies can work just as well. I think the most important thing by far is to get Heavy Charge asap.

I leave 1 point in Charge then i max the passive 1st for the cooldown bonus. Then i work on Reave until it's maxed at which point i retrain the bonus to reallocate the points from Reave to get Heavy Charge.
Then do the same thing again for ammo powers.

I also make sure that by Horizon i have 1 point in Cryo Ammo for Hand Cannon to kill husks

I am playing Vanguard right now (first Vanguard-Playthrough for me, but kind of fun yeah!) and I got this Level-Up priorities:

1.) Heavy Charge (Reason is obvious)

2.) Squad Cryo-Ammo (The sooner your allies can help you in battle, the better the survival rate)

3.) Inferno Ammo (Now that your mates can help control the battlefield, it's time to dish out some damage)

4./5.) I equally skill both the passive as the bonus power (Dominate: Does miracles whenever you can not charge anywhere!)

That's how I am doing and I got to say I am dying fewer times than expected (normally Sniper-Playtype all the way for me).

I'd say keep Charge and your Passive evened out, and go for the Passive first when you need to choose. With the Vanguard, Charge can be a lifesaver, but it can't save your life if you can't use it. Even a second of saved cooldown time can save your life. Charge should then be maxed after the Passive.

I can't remember, how many skill points does Shepard get for each level gained? I ask because, while I agree charge and passive are right up there in skills to max out first, I always aim to get squad cryo ammo before the final battle on Horizon. But if squad cryo isn't your thing, then I guess it doesn't matter, go for charge and passive first.

It's not high on my list, but I do open up shockwave and pull -- mainly to get pull which I can then use to set up warp explosions. I try to get pull before the Collector ship. If slam is my bonus power, then I ignore shockwave and pull altogether, since slam works just as well for warp explosions.

Charge and Champion, Squad Cryo (yes Inferno is more damage but squad Cryo is more CC, needed on Insanity, and you're shotgun blasts will freeze), then whatever.

IIRC I prefer to reduce my cooldown as fast as possible so go passive first, then heavy charge. For squad ammo I let Jacob, Grunt, Zaaed, etc. cover that while I concentrate on other things.

I disagree with this oppinion. I max inferno after charge because that allows me to charge groups. The Aoe-panic-effect helps my surviablity a lot more the a slight shorter cooldown for charge.

I just started a Vanguard playthrough myself recently and I kinda disagree with what people have been saying. While I agree with maxing out Heavy charge and Champion I only upgraded incindary ammo once and never for cryo I prefer to upgrade shockwave and pull because I like being more of a biotic when playing a vanguard instead of a soilder so I'll problably end up with on of the squadmates getting squad cryo or inferno while I get heavy shockwave and area pull

I'm shocked to hear recommendations for Cryo Ammo, as I've always heard it's crap.

Not really, it instakills husks, freezes the enemy once defences are down and gives a 200% damage boost once frozen. Squad cryo is essential on difficulties higher than veteren.

People used to say that around here all the time. And then they used it.
