In asking Leliana about her background, the PC can ask her if she was sent there to spy on him.  Naturally, she denies it.

How much sense does it make to think that Leliana is still operating as a bard in the game?

Now, take this silly little DLC we got this week, and the tidbit thrown in about Leliana and Alistair being lovers.  What greater coup would there be for an Orlesian spy than to be the lover of the Fereldan king?

That's certainly an interesting idea but how does that explain how if you choose to romance Morrigan or Zevran or just stay single that Leliana never tries anything? Is she focused on seducing you as the leader and thus supposedly more valuable one?

Well, as Leliana says, seduction is only one method.  And it could be IC justification for all that "buggy" ninja love.    She does seem to try really, really hard.

If I string this theory out a bit in my mind, I would say that Leliana could be operating as a bard but could, under the right circumstances, decide to go off the reservation and thus she might not actually betray the PC and/or Alistair in the end.

Not that it really matters, but Lelianna is actually Fereldan born - hence the whole Andraste's Grace flower thing.

Now she was raised by Cecile and mentored by Marjolaine - so the Orlesian influence applies of course.

But technically . . . she's a Fereldan.

I think Loghain actually makes a good point about that.

[/list]She was raised in Orlais so what does it matter where she was born? She's just as Orlesian as if she had been born there and her mother died before she had any clear memories of her besides the love for Andraste's Grace (which was her mother's favorite flower) so she doesn't remember anything about Ferelden. Thus, it's not really relevant.

You're assuming that Leliana had prior knowledge that Alistair was the last surviving son of Maric, and that you, who at the time of meeting her, barely knew Alistair, would become his lover.



When you meet Leliana, you're just out of Flemeth's hut, post Ostagar. Seeing that at that time, no matter your origin, you as the Warden is known by next to no one.

You can't be too careful when it comes to Orlais. They even steal your bloody dogs, which is like taking away a man's balls for a Fereldan.

Leliana as the bard-spy?





Nah. The Guardian would have picked up on that **** pretty damn quickly. Granted, you don't have to take Leliana with you but we would have seen more of an indication that 'zomg ORLESIAN' biases. Plus, after what the Orlesian guards presumably did to her after Marjolaine framed her, I doubt she would have been in any sort of hurry back there. Plus this would all hinge on Leliana being able to get close to Alistair, which would be unlikely without the Blight, something I doubt would have been considered.



I'll go with the Occam's Razor answer for this one.
