Since Cerberus can have the Thannix cannon, it's highly unlikely the Alliance wouldn't if it came down to war (whether having stolen on its own or Cerberus handing over the plans). That said, Thannix cannons allow for miniaturization, with cruisers having the firepower of dreadnoughts. Until/unless shielding technology took a comparable leap, that trend would favor smaller ships over larger, negating the dreadnought advantage.

I still don't know whether the Thanix Cannon is a directed energy weapon or will it still be blocked to some degree by kinetic barriers?

The Thanix is not a directed energy weapon, more like a mass driver machinegun. That should make it harder for it to deal with heavily shielded targets like dreadnoughts.

The thanix is perhaps not as effective as we think considering that standard torpedoes did almost as much damage to the collector cruiser. Then again that ship seemed to be extremely frail.

Thanix Cannon came from Garrus' contact I think. Wasn't native to Cerberus.. bestowed from Shepards friend.

Johnny, do you honestly think that Cerberus won't look at the schematics of a gun manufactured for their own ship, on their own ship, by their own ship, and won't keep the plans and details for themselves?

Even if Cerberus and the Alliance hadn't had the data before, Cerberus would have it once you give them the resources and plans to build it for you.

Torpedoes have always been extremely powerful in the Mass Effect lore: that's why fighter carriers are effective. The problem is that they are extremely short range, and actual warships have GUARDIAN defenses which can shoot them down. The Thannix has equal/greater punch, and far greater range.

Nope I'm sure Cerberus will study and capture the tech for sure, they have it now, just saying where it came from is all.

Then Alliance and Cerberus both will have Thannix along with everyone else.
