Congratulations. You did great! I didn't get it the first time because 1. I didn't know there was an achievement for it and didn't bother saving the ogre. 2. I had no idea it was glitched and that allowing it to die could make it impossible to get the ach later 3. I realized when it was dead that it couldn't use potions despite allowing me to put that option in it's tactics slot and 4. Sten was a warrior god. Live and Learn.

Well I didn't manage to get it either. But considering the fact that it lead me to this conversation and seeing the relevant frustration it creates among, if you'll excuse me expressing it this way, quite obssessed players. I must say I found some of the responses crazy enough to give me "a right laugh'. So I think not being able to get it was actually worth it for me! "Always look at the bright side of life :O" (life of brian- monty python) (just for those who didn't know. (good film to watch if you your "heart break" about this ogre doesn't seem to cure). ohh, well I'm just beeing silly aren't I?

Phew, I was holding my breath after reading about how a lot of players aren't getting the achievement. I got all 3 on my first go-thru and all I did w/ the ogre was make sure it never died. I played the game halfway thru on Normal, then switched to Casual just before the Sten fight as I was getting bored. At the Palace I immediately enthralled the ogre behind the bars before the other ogre even appeared.
Hope everyone manages to get it! It really sucks when you seemingly do everything right but, for God knows what reason, an achievement won't pop.

I've done it twice, once with one ogre and once with the other, and no achievement 
I noticed the second time there was an ogre with a yellow name and one with a white one, anyone know if this is an indication which one to choose?
Also, i maxed the ogre's approval before the alienage part and when i got him back NEITHER of them had max approval, so you can't always tell using that strategy.

Fixed it and got the achievement! In case anyone hasn't tried yet, sign out of Live, delete your game saves for the dlc and the dlc itself, then sign in and re-download the dlc, and it should work. I played it (for the fourth time at this point) on casual to make sure the ogre didn't die, and made sure to get the first ogre at the gate, held my breath the entire time right up til the end and it popped during the credits.

Well, I signed out of Xbox live, deleted the DLC and all previous DLC saves, dumped the cache, reloaded the DLC, played with the Awakenings disc instead of the original, made sure that I picked the right ogre at the gate, and the ogre was right there alive when I killed Alistair. Still no achievement. After 6 attempts I will not try again. The DLC isn't that good. I am officially through, not just with Dragon Age Origins, but with Bioware and EA as well. If they are too incompetent to get things right the first time and then too uncaring to fix the problems before they come out with new buggy products then no one should buy their games. I hope people remember all of this, all the problems with DA:O and its DLCs, when DA II comes out.

I accidentaly let the ogre die in my first playthrough. Tried a second time and the achievement don't unlocked. Tried to delete both savegames from the DLC and play a third playthrough, without sucess, ogre is alive, but achievement locked. (yes, it's the right ogre, not the other one). I have the PC version.

It looks to me like it's *random* which of the two ogres behind the gate is the right one. I saved a game just before opening the gate, and then four times opened the gate and enthralled the one that was right behind the gate. Three times I got one with base approval. Once it had the correct approval.
So just save/reload until your enthralled Ogre comes with the approval you built up previously.

i am posting this comment cause i have a problem with the ogre keeper achi.i did it 12 times.no joke. it doesnt pop tryed all ogres maxed all love stuff.all dificultys.tryed with injuries and without injuries,it doesnt pop.if someone know what to do pls pop a comment.i have pc version btw.

So... I got my achievement today. Took me oodles of tries, and I'm embarrassed to say that I don't know how many of these tries had my playing with an injured Ogre. 
But here's what I did:
I deleted all saves associated with this DLC. Then I cleared my harddrive's system cache, so I got an update when I popped Dragon Age in.
My Ogre has been spawning with an injury. Gaping wound, I think. Not only does this seem impossible, but it also makes him rather difficult to keep alive. As soon as I was able, I gave him an injury kit.
I kept him alive and sure enough, it popped.
So... if anyone else is earning this achievement but not getting it: check to see if your Ogre spawns with an injury. Because this advice just might help.

I finally got this achievement yesterday, after i redownloaded the dlc and cleared the cache. It turns out that I needed to enthrall the ogre before completing the save the ogre quest.

I just wanted to add myself to the numerous people that are having this problem.
Despite deleting saves and reinstalling, trying different discs, making sure I kept the ogre alive etc, still no achievement for me. Sadly it's the last one I need!
But why should I having paid 'good' money for a DLC to only be disappointed with more glitches, I shouldn't need to go through all the messing about just for this achievement. It's just a bit annoying and doesn't encourage me to buy the next game TBH.
If I could hand back the other two achievements from Darkspawn chronicles, and erase the existance of those achievements, then I would cos it aint worth the agro.

So I reload my save from just before Fort Drakon in the DLC. I don't get the pop-up saying I got the achievement, but I check my profile, and there it is. I leave the game, and come back later, and of course, it's gone again.
I have seen one X-Box 360 user on another forum claim that you can't let your Ogre get to maximum approval before you get separated at the beginning of the Palace District section. I'll be trying that once I get Sharpshooter, even though I have the PC version.

After about 15 playthoughs I finally got the Ogre's keeper. The trouble I had was that my Ogre didn't have the gaping wound to heal during most playthroughs, then selecting my ogre at the gate bit was fine but I had used a ton of gifts on it to improve it's abilities, but there was no evidence of the likability I had invested in, but I carried on nonetheless on easy difficulty... and somehow after what seemed like months I got it.
But it shouldn't have been like that and I sympathise with anyone else having trouble with this achievement.

Thanks for that hint. I didn't clear files or reinstall any part of the game.
But I've tried to enthrall the ogre before completing the first ogre related quest, and got the achievment at the end of the module.

This advice helped me massively, finally got it!!! Do the above word to word but also make sure to Enthrall the ogre before finishing the "SAVE THE OGRE" quest thingy and it should end up with the injury; then just keep it alive
