How could I forget SC2. Exploration, resource management, ship building, recruiting alien races, love interest...

Am I still the only one who said Ufo: enemy unknown? Has anyone here
even played that game? (It's pretty old, released back in 1994)

Of course. I loved it and Julian Gollop's earlier turn-based tactical game Laser Squad too. I'd also mention Space Hulk from similar genre.

Hell yeah. It's less like a game and more like a good interactive book.

I remember going to get groceries with my ma, and stopping at the Space Invaders machine at the front door. She'd give me a quarter and that's all I'd get. Had to make those 3 little men last as long as possible.
As for this time around, I'd have to say Half-Life 2 has been the game to leave me consistently in awe. Everything was superb in it for me, the story, bad guys, and those physics puzzles... ME2 is in the top ten too, of course.

Though the graphics were a bit gruesome even at that time in it, the gameplay was still golden :)

[slaps self in the back of the head]  Why did I forget that one! One of my most favorite games ever!

And an excelent example of how changing RPG elements doesn't necessarily make for a better sequel.  Image IPB

I have I prefer Jagged Alliance 2 though.  But I first played both games back in 2007, the one thing that infuriated me about X-Com was that enemies could attack you on your move but you couldn't attack them on their move.

Anything Valve made is top shelf in my book. Orange Box was insane.

I don't know how can you just pick only one...

From the top of my head: Kotor, Lucas Arts adventure games (monkey island, the dig, full throttle, etc) FFVI, Suikoden 2, Chrono Trigger/Cross, Flashback, Mario 64, DKCountry, Zelda alttp, Castlevania SOTN, Portal and of course Mass Effect 2.

Yeah, Star Control II was pretty much like Mass Effect 2 except it was about ship battles and recruiting alien races rather than individuals.  I think Star Control II was probably my favorite game of all time until Deus Ex came out.

Crash Bondicoot. I grew up playing it and it will always remain one of the best games of all times. Cannot for the Mass Effect series.

I can't believe I forgot Flashback and Castlevania Symphony Of The Night. SHAME ON ME!

While we're at it, I probably should've mentioned Dragon Warrior VII too.

Yeah you could. If you had action points left from your previous turn, your troops would shoot the enemy if they saw them moving during their turn.

Favorite game of all time? There's so many good ones. I usually just pick my favorite game in each category. Hmm...

Well, the first game I ever played was original Sonic, so 90's Sonic is by far the game(s) I have the most fun playing, Sonic 3 & Knuckles in particular.

In terms of Story (CLICHE COMING UP!) I'd have to say Halo. The games, the books, the promotional campaigns... it's just such a beautifully crafted story.

Mass Effect comes close to Halo, though. It's also the first game series that I've seen the "choices matter in the sequel" in. It's pretty revolutionary, and the ending to ME2 made me drop my controller in amazement/anticipation.

Major props to the guy who mentioned Alundra. Alundra is one of the most challenging, and fun Zelda rip-offs I've ever played. Alundra 2 was great too even though it had absolutely nothing to do with the first game.

Forgot Zelda. Thanks Jack dude. Zelda is one game I'll always remain playing until Nintendo finally lets it go or I die to quickly.

Not to be a fanboy, but my most favorite out of all the games I have played since I was a kid to now:

Mass Effect 2

Borderlands

Fallout 3

War of the Monsters

Jak and Daxter Series

Those are the major ones I love.

The worst thing about enemy unknown is not being able to open doors without walking through it.
Lost so many people that way.
Terror from the deep allowed you to do that, and I was like, "this is teh best game ever!"

ME1 & 2 are tied but I am not sure if they are my favorite or not. Oblivion is definately up there as well as Super Mario 3

Oblivion and Super Mario 3? Lol!

Well, no one will accuse you of having narrow tastes.

Thats right..... Mario 3 is a classic to anyone who played it as a kid. I have played that game more than I even want to admit to myself. While I'm am talking about random games Civilization 4 is in my top 5 as well as simcity.

All of those are GREAT games that redefined video games in some way.

Civ 4 is a boring game ... I only play civ4:Colonization and I've played Civ3:conquests hundreds of time!
