That's it, 99% of ME3 will be mining

Because planet scanning on the Virtual Boy WOULD be awesome.

He seems rather unsure about the direction the inventory system will take.Casey Hudson wrote...
Obviously the game being really well received I think reinforces the decisions we made in terms of the way the interface works and the inventory, stuff like that. But there are a lot of people that were happy with the amount of depth that was there, but people that wanted to see it as an RPG versus an action RPG or whatever, I think felt that it needed more depth in terms of your choices for inventory and stuff like that. That's certainly something we can do in the future. We can only create a balance that we believe makes sense.
So in terms of the inventory issue, for example, I don't think anyone's arguing that the changes to the interface and whatnot were not good. It comes down to kind of a separate thing which is, it's always good to have a better interface that's easier and more intuitive and whatnot.
Casey Hudson wrote...
Well you can never really predict how a game is going to be reviewed but we knew that… I mean the first Mass Effect was really well received. We knew this one was a lot better. We thought it was.

I also don't like that future DLC might try to bridge ME2 to ME3. I vote for content with my wallet and DLC in general is never worth buying. so having actual story included in some new 1 hour mission that costs 10$ is not my idea of fun.
Call me old school but I still prefer expansion packs.

At least he recognized the inventory system needs more depth.

I would be surprised if EA/Bioware wouldn't say anything about future DLC at E3.Jackal904 wrote...
Well if they make story based DLC that's at least around 3 hours then I'll be happy. This Overlord DLC is a step in the right direction. I just really want some big DA:O Awakening-sized DLC for ME2. Now that would be awesome. Of course it takes a lot of time to make DLC of that size. Hopefully they announce something like that at E3.

He said that the planet-scanning system won't have as much focus. As I mentioned in another thread, this could mean that we'll only use it for scanning for anomalies.slimgrin wrote...
Not ditching the planet scanning. Unbelievable.

Scanning for anomalies still makes sense in comparison to Joker being psychic and already knowing exactly where to drop you on the planet for your side mission in ME1. It's a minor detail, but it still adds to this "immersion" thing that everyone seems to talk about.

Seriously, what the hell? When the patch came out, it really looked like they had finally come to their senses and done their best to practically nerf it out of the game, and now they want to bring it back in ME3?!
It's also flat-out not true that the hatred for the scanning minigame only comes from people who thought they had to scan the entire galaxy. I've never done more scanning than I absolutely needed to and I always felt it was a tedious intrusion to the point where I did my last playthrough on Veteran so that I wouldn't need any upgrades. He's said this before and I thought it was just the marketing spin version of "okay, that sucked, sorry", but apparently not.
Sigh.

I'd prefer no inventory. Just increase the amount of weapon and armor types, and give us stat information.
See this is what I think too. It isn't necessarily the inventory system, but it's the massive amount of choices you can have with an inventory system. Even if some are slightly different version of each other, we have the choice to really mix and match balancing different strengths and weaknesses or even appearance.
I was also one of the people who didn't mind the scanning planets, only dropped a few a probes on rich worlds when I scout for side missions and I covered my minerals without a problem and minimal scanning time, would rather do it with a MAKO on a random world though..... OH GOD DON'T SHOOT ME!!!!
Regardless, i'm glad to see Mr.Hudson confimed that it looks like they might continue to think about looking at ME3 with more of a balance. My money now is on ME3 nailing the genre mix.

And I'm really waiting for that DLC that will continue the history of Mass Effect 2. Maybe we'll see what Shepard will do with the information they now have about the Reapers.

Three personality types enjoy planet scanning:
1. Casey Hudsen
2. People who have been lobotimized
3. People high on a potent mix of formaldehyde and Heroin.
For those who say "Meh, I don't mind it"... Thanks for gauranteeing its inclusion in ME3, because you are apparently who Hudsen is listening to.

Well I don't have any issues with it, I can scan a planet really fast with a mouse, it's bloody trivial. But not enjoyable.
