So for about a month now, I have been playing various classes in me2. Ive probably beaten the first few missions of the campaign so many times it'd scare me if  I saw the exact number. But with all of that tinkering and experimenting, I've narrowed it down to 2 classes: The Sentinel and the Vanguard. These classes are definelty 2 of my favorite and I'd like the community's opinions on which I should choose and why you believe so. I understand that probably 99% of the people who see this thread will sigh and move on. But for those of you that dont mind sharing your opinion, then please feel free, go ahead and post. I play on the xbox btw. Thanks for any input. For what it's worth, here are the builds I'll most likely be using.

Vangaurd- Bonus Weapon: SR. Bonus Power: Reave, to give the class more versatility

Inferno Ammo
Squad Cryo Ammo
Heavy Charge
Champion
Area Reave
1 point in shockwave

Sentinel- Bonus Weapon: Shotgun or AR training. Bonus Power: Reave, so that I will have a power that can strip multiple enemies at once, whether they are protected by armor or barrier.

Throw-lvl 2
Warp-lvl 3
Power Armor- ill spec into Assault Armor for certain missions or when I feel like playing aggresively
Area Overload
Guardian
Area Reave
1 point in cryo blast

I'll probably get some "Reave is OP Rawr!" but i believe Reave will give these two classes what the need . And hey, this is a single player game

Two questions:

1) What difficulty level?

2) Xbox or PC?

They are both very good classes. I have yet to use Reave with either of them though...that's not to say its bad.

I'm so happy to find another user of the Sniper Rifle on the Vanguard. I think the Eviscerator is good enough and the Sniper addresses a key weakness of the class.

Sentinel is good with A-R, I can personally vouch for this in my suicide mission playthroughs. However it may overlap with the Locust if you have it...I cannot be sure, as I myself do not have the Kasumi DLC. I would also pick Warp over Overload level 4 since Warp is effective against armor and barriers, while Overload only works on shields (and synthetics too, to be fair). I found I used Warp far more than Overload as a Sentinel.

Of the two, I think the Vanguard is going to be more chaotic, risky, and potentially more rewarding, if you can stand dying a lot more. The Sentinel seems to be the more ranged, safe, versatile class.

If I had to choose one, I would pick the Sentinel, because its a very stable class that suits my own sensibilities. I have never been the gung-ho type, I prefer the safety of casting at range, and dying is considerably rarer with the Sentinel. Moreover, you can play your Sentinel as a short-range specialist as well with a few resources, rather than the mono-dimensional approach of the Vanguard (although your Sniper Rifle would help mitigate this).

It's all about what you want, however.

I really enjoyed the sentinel, as there were substantially fewer reload screens (especially compared to my vanguard), and it is a very flexible class. Currently playing a vanguard, and they are ridiculously fun, but until you get some upgrades and get used to the proper use of charge, you will die fairly regularly.

In my experience, the Vanguard on Insanity is a recipe for frustration... on the Xbox.  Some of the top videos of Vanguard players taking on the platforms look awesome, but they can't really be done on the Xbox.  I could be wrong, but Charge seems to be even less reliable on the Xbox than it is on the PC.

Sentinel on Insanity, however, is great fun.  It's a fast-paced, mid to close range playstyle without the heavily glitched Charge.  On classes that have Warp, though, I never take Reave.  In my opinion, the loyalty skill slot should be saved for 1 rank of an ammo power in those situations.

If you go with the Sentinel, be prepared for an annoyingly long final battle.  Especially with the AR or shotgun.

The only reason I would probably take reave is because it can take down the defenses of multiple enemies at once, while war can only hit one enemy per cast. Of course, I would have warp at 3 for warp explosions and such

Sentinel will certainly be easier (btw, Reave is so similar to Warp, so why not leave Warp at 0 and instead max out either Heavy Throw or Full Cyro Blast), but I did my first ever ME2 playthrough as a Vanguard on Insanity and loved it.  Sure it was incredibly frustrating early on, but that was mostly beacause I was still learning the game and the missions as well.  Since you've already playthrough those a few times, it shouldn't be nearing as frustrating as it was for me as along as you've read the two big vanguard threads and watched some of the vids (and by the looks of your solid build, you have).

Fair enough.  I think Warp's utility outweighs Reave's area, but Reave has the life regeneration and stun going for it as well.  It's a tired debate.

But yeah, go for the Sentinel.  It's a lot more fun.  The tech armor is fun too, especially against Husks.

I agree, warp is great. Which is why I would probably end up taking it to lvl 3. It would still do a great deal of damage, it can stop regen, and most importantly, it can detonate enemies being affected by biotics like pull.
